Post Your First Egg of 2016!!!

I just got my first egg of the season! One problem is I don't know if it belongs to my Spalding or White peahen. I saw both showing signs of laying an egg but only one egg.
Congrats, Bertoli is still in the "stance" this morning so the wait continues.

I thought that Pied Piper had been taking care of business, but so far they are just foolin' around. Some of my pens are doing pretty well, not really in full swing yet waiting for two of my best pens to even start.

I have been setting every week, this is this weeks set.

Very impressive KKB!

I have a new to lay hen, three-year-old, that has been doing the same thing. Last night I went out around ten pm to collect eggs and she was standing on the roost not quite pumping, but looked close enough I waited for a while to see if she would lay. Wouldn't you know it is the only perch without hay under it.

Well, there is a good turd pile under it, perhaps it will soften the blow and let it roll off.

Nice egg @Birdrain92 ! I bet you will figure it out in a few days. Do your hens' eggs consistently look different? I could tell when I picked them up which hen laid them, but now that Topaz has started laying, I haven't necessarily figured out which color of these is from which hen. These are much closer in color than between Diamond & Turquoise. A few more days and I think I will know. Each of my hens has been really consistent in the color, shape and speckling (or not) of her eggs -- they look pretty distinctive.

The fun part is this will be the first time I've seen eggs out of the 4 hens I have in the pen. I only saw one of my White hens and my Spalding showing signs so I know it's between the two. I'll figure out who's laying tomorrow around 8:30

I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping she lays an egg for you.

Bertoli laid her egg unassisted last night, unfortunately it was laid from the perch and apparently hit the 2x4 on the way down. It landed in a nice big fluffy pile of shavings, but the side was caved in. So we got our first egg, but it is unhatchable. At least she passed it though!

Woohoo! Congratulations! Even though it's dented but at least you know she's laying without problems!
