Congrats! Our second hen started laying yesterday and then today we found her egg eaten :-( Although it was alongside another of my other layers that was uneaten...she only eats her own I guess?

Not to hijack, but what's this tax free day at wally world today?!

I finally got my first egg today from my Buff Orpington!!! It's here next to a store bought egg. It's so small and cute I almost don't want to eat it!

We didn't want to eat our first egg either. So we blew out our first six eggs- put the date on them - then in a small dish. I look at them and think gosh the girls have been laying since June. Then I promptly thank them for these wonderful, flavorful orbs that they gift us with daily.

My Barred Rock, Martha (named for the Dr. Who companion), laid her first egg yesterday! She is just about exactly 20 weeks old (we got her about March 27, and she was probably a week old when we got her). The egg looked like it had speckles when I rinsed it off, but the speckles disappeared when it dried. Anyway, here it is. I'm so proud of her! This is my first egg from a hen I raised from chick-hood. What a good girl. She got lots of dandelion leaves (her favorite) and fallen apples from our tree as a reward.

P.S. I'm definitely going to blow this out. I'm thinking of threading a ribbon and some beads through it and keeping it as a kitchen decoration.

I love to here everyone egg storys...My girls will be 23 weeks old this saturday....NO EGG YET!!!! Every morning I look and nothing.. I have a golf ball in both of my egg boxes... some one of my girls has had a little blood in the poop.. do any one think this is a start of egg???? help:)

Daisy, our pretty Buff Orpington, has layed her first egg! We had the nest boxes covered, because at 20 weeks, we thought the pullets were too young to lay. Not so! Daisy did the best she could and layed her first in the dirt. The next day she knew to go in the astroturf lined nesting boxes. Good girl!

Finally! One of my crazy EEs has laid her first (and second) egg. So far, every other day. And in the right place, right next to the brown one in the nest box.

The floorboards in the pic are 8 inches wide, and the brown egg is an "extra large" so she's got some catching up to do, but I'm just happy she's finally laying at her advanced age -- somewhere between 28 and 30 weeks old! Now the others better get on board. I told them they have until thanksgiving
