Today is my EIGHTEENTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY and my dear husband and best friend is deployed overseas, so I woke up a little bummed out.
This year I ordered my first chicks ever and they came on February 7th. Watching them grow has helped me mark the time my husband has been away. I knew that any day now, I would begin to see activity.
Sure enough, today at noon when I was fussing in the coop...a small, orphaned green egg lay alone on the floor in the corner. It was dirty. It had a hairline crack in it, but it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
I scooped up my startled pullet, hugged the stuffing out of her and sobbed like a little girl.
Gifts are where you find them.
*** Sorry, no photos -- too busy being the sole butcher, baker, and candlestick maker to figure out the uploading just now. Just look at Gardengirl 2011's beautiful prize up thread.....identical in color, size and perfect shape--only much dirtier
