Hello all,

While I'm not new at raising poultry, it has been awhile since I had a flock.

I purchased my gals (Golden Laced Wyandotte) from the local feed store around the 17th of March.

My first egg came July 31st! I was so happy you would of thought I laid that egg!

Since that time I've been up to a max of 8 eggs in one day, but averaging about 5. I have 12 hens and some just look a little less mature then some of the other gals. They were suppose to be about a week old when I purchased them.

We're so excited! We just got our first eggs today -- one from the Rhode Island Red and the other from the Silver-Laced Wyandotte! We don't know which egg is which (any guesses)? One was in the run (next to the waterer) and the other was tucked up in a nesting box. Both hens are 22 weeks old. We knew they were getting close because over the last week or two they both got larger combs and wattles that turned very red. They've also started squatting a bit and bawking. Our third hen, a speckled sussex, hasn't really shown that change yet, so we're sure it's not her.

This is our first chicken adventure, we got them as 2-day-old chicks this March. Our daughter is now in a poultry 4-H club and is loving it!

I've learned so much from this site and all of the helpful experienced chicken experts!
My guess would be the SLW laid the lighter egg. That is the color of my SLWs eggs.

21 weeks on the day.
we are not sure which one of the BOs but definatly not the EEs.

I was at work and my 4 year old Nephew and SIL was over and asked the DW "Where do they lay the eggs?" They opened the nest box and....Viola! there it was with the plastic easter egg.

One of the four is no longer a free loader

We got our first egg on August 1st from our Silver Laced Wyandotte who was exactly 18 weeks that day. We've since received a total of nine eggs from her, one of which was a double yolker. We ate them all yesterday for breakfast!

In the nest box:

Finally! Charlotte, our Black Australorp (23 weeks old), laid her first egg. The egg on the left is from the Black Australorp, and the egg on the left is from our Red-Sex Link, Hazel, who has been laying for about five weeks now (started at 18 weeks old).

Hazel hasn't missed a day yet! I believe we are going on 36 eggs in a row... :)
