when do they start layin eggs my girls are 5 1/2 weeks im guessing it will be quite some time before they lay though do they just lay on there own or is there something i need to do to help them lay? i have 4 barred rocks 2 americanas and 2 buff orpingtons!

Hey mama n peeps! My girls are about 19 weeks old. I'm sure the veterans can give you an answer about age range. I wasn't expecting them to start till 20 weeks. Need to go out and get some laying feed! These are black australorps, if that makes a difference, and one is quite a bit bigger than the other two though all three came in the same shipment from the hatchery.

Hi,

My Red Star (Sex Links) are 19 weeks and just started laying today!! I watched for the last couple days of them going back in forth into the nests just sitting, but today they stayed at breakfast!!

My Leghorns are about 10 weeks and my Leghorn/Cochins are 9 weeks, they are already getting into the nests and laying, but I am sure it will be another few weeks at least. But at least they are getting up there, I did not think they would stop huddling together on the floor,

Next to a store bought for comparison. It's small, but I'm impressed with how great the shape is and how strong the shell is!

Hi there, my babies are about 18 weeks old now and all 17 girls have started laying! they are all mixes but I hatched out 2 pure cuckoo Marans and they have already started. I dont' know if this makes a difference but all the Moms were pure bred girls of various breeds and they they started laying much later. I think that I remember hearing that the average is between 19 and 22 weeks old. Good luck with your babies, Sandy
