HAPPY NEW YEAR!! It's obvious they didn't start laying today, but I didn't check yesterday because I was gone all day picking my daughter up from her dad's. Anyway, I went out to check this very morning and low and behold... 3 EGGS!!! I think one started laying yesterday and another today. IDK... Anyway here is a pick of what I found this morning!

That was my first egg from RIR pullets at just over 5 months. I am a guy with no kids, so thinking in weeks is a new thing...lol.
It came on Dec. 30, and you see it compared to a store bought large egg.

As of Jan. 1, today, they are 3 for 3. The last 2 aren't as pretty as the first, but about the same size.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

My Marans are shocking me. I have gone from 1.4oz eggs from my Marans to a large one yesterday weighing in at 2.5oz to today I just got a jumbo egg, 3.2oz. Had to weigh it on a postal scale lol. This one is crazy big, its a size of the duck eggs I use to get as a kid growing up. Here's a picture of it maxing out the scale & then taken next to store bought large eggs. The tiny one is 1.2oz from our SLW.

We just found our first eggs in the coop today! Not just one, but two!

Not sure which girls laid, but we suspect the Plymouth Rock and the Speckled Sussex. All our ladies will be 25 weeks old tomorrow.
