Here is my 24 weeks old Welsummer's first egg! She laid on Dec 30, and had total of 6 eggs in about 2 weeks so far (hey, it's winter). The annoying thing is that now, when the BR pullet is doing her business, the Wel starts croaking loudly which is very disturbing.

This is my 24 weeks old Barred-Rock pullet first egg. She started on the new year's day, has had 7 eggs so far (again, it has been very cold). She is a good egg layer, and very quite compare to the Welsummer pullet we have.

That's a beautiful egg in both size and color.

Too bad my Ameraucana pullet was taken away by a raccoon a week ago; otherwise, she would lay pretty eggs too. I really miss her, she was our very first chicken.

Thought this day would never come! First egg from mixed flock of 7. I think this is from the Welsummer. She is 29 weeks.

I have a 20 week old BO and Australorp pullets who are very red in the face but still have fairly small combs and wattles (sp?). Do their combs and wattles have to grow in all the way to full size before they start laying or can they lay first and have the combs and wattles grow to full size later?

We just got our first egg ever!! I am pretty sure it is from one of my red sexlinks because 2 days ago she squatted for me when I walked in and she never did that before, none of them did. And today when I went out to feed them and clean their coop, there it was, in the middle of the coop, perfect little egg! The chickens are 27 weeks and 4 days old today and my baby boy is 3 months old today so its an awesome gift from the chicks
