Pot Bellied Pigs

I have PBPs too! We have five of them, all different personalities. I don't keep them all in the same enclosure, because I have two that don't like to be together all the time. I have one that free ranges and makes a bed of hay for herself in the barn at night. The others are in stalls with goats, and we let them out to free range during the day.

We have found them to be quite smart.

Now I have a question. Apples, our free ranger pig, sometimes seems to get into "moods". I swear she sulks sometimes and gets jealous of our attention to the others, whether we are giving them treats or pats. She will then hide from us. Are they capable of emotions such as that, or are we just being silly?

Probably both. Pigs are said to be highly intelligent for all their seemingly bad habits - like people.

If it isn't emotion, then it is something akin to it. Your level of concern over it, however, is probably where you should gauge "silliness."

Is Apple fixed? If not she could be getting moody when in heat. Some females get major PMS.
I love my pots. They do all have different personalities. My oldest gal is the housekeeper. She makes the beds up with straw spending a lot of time getting them just right. The two big neutered males argues over who gets the best spot to sleep until Quimby chases them both out. Then they come sulking back in, full of apologies. With a little imagination I can picture Quimby chasing them outside with a broom.

My two younger pots love to pasture graze with the horses and goats. The little male stands underneath the blind pony for shade. Those two are more attached to the pasture animals than they are the older pots living in the barn.
