Poultry Breeding & Showing Class in Sonoma County CA

Yes, thank you! I see that I have my homework cut out for me, eyeing my flock. It was good to catch up with people and to meet new faces. I need to get my chicken people fix in every so often or I completely drive my husband nuts.

Thank you so much Kim for all your hard work & thank you Walt for sharing with us.
I had a wonderful time. I never get enough "chicken talk" with other chicken people. Ridesharing was wonderful too. We got to talk chicken the whole trip so it was double pleasure. It is always so exciting to meet new chicken people & share their adventures, each one so different makes it so inspiring.
THANK YOU ***THANK YOU*** THANK YOU
I brought home eggs, plus Denny, Lotsapaints, brought me eggs too so I will be playing incubator musical shelves today & tomorrow. I have to trays of my own eggs hatching today so perfect timing......LOL
We ran into some crazy weather on the way home & surprising traffic near the bay area. The Garmin took us home a completely different way than we got there but it was all good & such good company.
I have alot to do with suggested changes today & new feed to pick up but am excited about doing it. Hope the rain has stopped & Spring will be in full swing.
Hope to see you all again.
Sean Lial from Delta Poultry Meetup group is hosting a Potluck BBQ next Saturday in Concord that my grand daughter Olivia & I will be attending.....More Chicken talking fun.......LOL
Monet, Olivia missed out but will be with me Saturday.

WONDERFUL DAY! Thank you so much for indulging me and my flock. I was so embarrassed they had gotten so tattered and were so filthy! Having just gotten home from a long business trip I didn't have time to fuss over them like I would have liked to.

I learned so much. The silver pencils have been really challenging but I'm determined to continue to work hard and get these guys back to their glory. I'll be culling out at least one girl and have already begun the quest for the new roo. Again thanks so much for having my birds it was perfect timing for me!

Many of the people there were interested in doing a chickenstock party at Sienna Ranch in Lafayette, where I have my breeder pens. www.SiennaRanch.net

It's an awesome place and we can do a chicken sale/swap there as well. There are picnic tables and we would have access to the whole ranch with Alpacas, goats, sheep, horses, bunnies, permaculture gardens & of course lots of chickens. I'm going to inquire on weekends that are available and then start a thread for anyone interested. I'm thinking june/july

I came home with the best treats...I surely love bartering....homemade jellies, delish wines, beautiful buff laced girls and from my good friend karen a truly great gift of black bamboo - I LOVE gardening. THANKS everyone and especially to Kim and Karen for all the hard work putting it together.

Thanks so much everyone! I really enjoyed meeting lots of chickenpeople & seeing some beautiful birds. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this chicken addiction.

I took several pics - I'll upload them in a few minutes.

I'd like to add my thanks too to Walt, Kim and Karen for taking their time to put this fantastic class together. Also thanks to Cheryl for sharing your birds with us. It was very helpful to hear Walt's comments and the discussions. I came home with my lovely new babies from Cheryl and Dawn, thank you both very much! I can't wait to hatch my Delaware babies from the eggs Karen had for me, thank you dear lady :)

The carpooling up and back was a fun treat. Thank you Karen and Jules for carting my butt around. It was also a truly awesome surprise to learn that Janice/flyfishingal and I grew up together. Hadn't seen each other in 25+ years! My mom was her bus driver and her mom was our mail lady :) Chicken addiction brings us all together at some point..

I enjoying meeting all of the people behind the avatars on BYC and am looking forward to forging new friendships. It was a lovely day.

I am certainly game...............I am also usually pretty flexible. Just do your "thang" lady & I will follow suit. If there is anything I can do let me know. I will watch for your new thread.

I am happy with the way everything went and it truly was a group effort.

We are so fortunate to have someone with a wealth of information who is kind and willing to share. I can't thank you enough, Walt!

Cheryl, it was wonderful of you to bring your birds and put them out there for judging so that we all could benefit from the experience. I appreciate that so much!
Thanks to Pat for bringing shavings and to those who brought cages!

Thanks to Dawn, also, for bringing your lively fellow. It was great to meet all of you in person and I'm still trying to remember names and link faces with BYC names.

I know Catherine isn't on BYC but I was so glad to meet her also.
An amusing experience was hearing chicks peep from inside so many ladies' shirts

To all the people who cleaned up, you did a fantastic job of it!

I'm sorry that I didn't help, but I was outside with Walt. Michele brought her Dorkings and one of the best parts of the day, for me, was getting to see & hear Walt as he evaluated them. Thanks to Michele for bringing them!

Anne, you were so wonderful to make Walt's card and make sure that everyone got a chance to sign it! That was a big help. And I truly appreciate all of you who brought food and set up, and maintained the refreshment table! Gerry had women wanting to adopt him because of his hand made strawberries.

You all are really amazing!

I've probably neglected to thank someone, but know that I truly appreciate everyone who came and participated in such an awesome day!

And for all the birds that showed up.....we couldn't have had this event without the birds.....

This is the first chicken group event I have attended and it will not be my last.

I loved meeting the folks in person that I have chatted with on BYC and also making new chicken friends. I am planning to add a few chicks to my small flock and now I have the contacts to make that even more fun and personal.

The food was fantastic, the company terrific, and ALL the birds spectacular. I loved hearing the little pips throughout the day and the crowing. A chicken person could not have been happier or more content.

Thank you for a happy day. I look forward to the next time. And my hubby had a nice time too....

Pics from the Sonoma County class yesterday:
Some amazing strawberries to start off the class. Thanks, g-man!

Lotsa meeting old friends & making new ones...

Walt went through the judging process and showed us what to look for. He also took the time to show us the best way to handle the birds so they stayed calm and comfortable.
We got some great tips on how to select the best birds for breeding, how to condition birds for show, and so much more.
Thanks, Walt, for being such a fantastic teacher!

Cheryl's beautiful pencilled rocks:

I'm a sucker for beautiful feather patterns. Look at the gorgeous pencilling!

Some RocknRoll stars:

This looks like my hair after a losing battle with blowdryer & curling iron. Looks much better on the chicken.

Wo - they DO have eyes!!

Pretty pair o' ladies

Beautiful blue orpington!!

...and last but not least: not-so-little Little Joe.
