Poultry Hollow Hatchery Experience and Poultry Hollow Hatchery Chick "Growth Chart" (PIC HEAVY)

Now we have a black silkie that is a little sick...I had always noticed that he had watery eyes but thought it was because his fluff was in them so I would take a wet paper towel an wipe under his eye to clean it up..but today his left eye is closed...yesterday I saw that he had a little bit of mucusy yellow/green stuff in the corners of his eye so I clean it again..he has also always seemed to be off balance like maybe he cant see out of one eye...could he be blind in that eye from this infection or whatever it is? do you know of anything I can do to make him better...eye drop or eye cream? they were all on antibiotics for 4 days and he still has some sort of infection or something in his eye.

Some of the Nashville people I've talked to have bought their chicks from the Poultry House in Triune and seem pretty happy. They sell through Bonnie's Barnyard, since they keep a biosecure facility. http://bonniesbarnyard.com

Unfortunately the lakenvelder died this evening..but we did everything we could and at least we know that he died with a full tummy, In the 59 chicks we have had this is only the second that has died...now we just have to get that little black silkie's eyes better and I think all of them will be fine.

I assume you are talking about this one...it does not have a blad spot that is where it got wet at the hatchery (must have been sugar water) and her fluff is sticking together and when she turns her head it shows her neck.

WELCOME!

I seldom post - so little time, you know how it goes when you have chickens!
I want to thank you ever so much for your thoughtful, intelligent, and courteous post. I read it avidly and it said everything I was thinking but wasn't going to bother to post.

I, too, believe in letting my money do the talkin'.

I don't know if the original poster (OP) has other poultry of any kind but I would certainly be leery of bringing suspect chicks home if I did.

I know that if I bought 'X' number of chicks at a place that I felt that strongly about both cleanliness and breed purity I would be preventing the sale of 'X' number of chicks at a cleaner and better organized place. Yes, they ARE out there, you have to hunt for them, often small dedicated breeders of any livestock cannot afford advertising.

As to whether the OP "just caught them on a bad day" - I doubt it. They stated a strong aversion to the place on several levels and I recommend that they trust their gut instinct and never go back. I'm not so sure that sending them a letter would be of any use, but don't see how it can hurt. Hey, you might even get a reply.

You know some people are just very sad and have more time on there hands to write about things they know nothing about! You people should be ashamed, to think that you even have an idea of what you are talking about is ridiculous! You see 3 birds in a cage and assume they are breeder? Well guess what, WRONG! You write that our breeds are not pure bred, guess what, WRONG AGAIN! You have 59 chicks? Well good for you, you are not hatching thousands a week and have NO IDEA what you are talking about! When you go to a pet store there are tanks of fish for sale, yes a little crowded but what do you expect a tank per fish? Well guess what, same thing with raising poultry, you have to have them in pens where YES they are full but NOT too many that they are over crowded. You people just DO NOT know what you are talking about!!! We have over 5000 birds at this time, does it smell? YES, smells like a chicken farm. Are our pens and brooders clean? YES they are twice a week. How long have you been raising poultry? A few weeks? Oh then by all means you are an experty and know it all! Wish I could apologize but sorry, if anyone is owed an apology it is us for these BRUTAL LIES that are being told about us. We would NEVER try to sell a bird for older than it is! Our pricing start with UP TO WEEK OLD, then goes to 2 weeks when it is PAST WEEK OLD! I have never been so mad at somebody's irresponsible attempt to talk about things they don't know or understand! So be sure to write the pet stores and let them know they are treating their animals with cruelty since there are many fish in tanks, several cats in their enclosure, Oh god there are several hampsters in their pens, I could go on but really you are not worth it! Do you think when someone buys them they go to a less crowded area?
I'm hoping that some people can start talking with more education instead of trying to talk about thing you know nothing about. We don't appreciate the down right slander!!!

Comparing your practices to that of a pet store is actually a REALLY BAD thing. If you indeed are the hatchery, your arguments aren't lending you any credence.

Sorry to hear about the lakenvelder. Hopefully the Silkie gets better. I appreciate the reason you started this thread. It is always neat to see chicks growing and read the status updates. Your opinions are valid, just as everyone elses. If in the future you do not like the look of a place I hope you go somewhere else to purchase )

slan·der

   [slan-der] Show IPA
noun
1.
defamation; calumny: rumors full of slander.
2.
a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report: a slander against his good name.
3.
Law . defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc.

What the OP said was her opinion of the place. If her words are slander then you very well could be accused of the same, by your post. Please remember that this thread was not a flame thread and should not continue as such.
