Power outage!!!

I keep electrolytes on hand so when I help one out, I can give it a teeny tiny sip of it. I hold the chick upright, put some by it's beak, and let it take a tiny bit, I mean tiny bit. I make sure it does get that bit, then watch for it to make that swallow. It will raise it's little head and stretch it up to get that bit down. Then I wait for an hr. to give it more. I do this every hr. tiny bits..about 4 times. Then I start going about every two hrs. Then I watch to see how it is doing by trying to put it up on it's legs. The second day I only give it the electrolytes about 4 times a day. I stop on the third. Some folks like to give sugar water. Not sure how much they give. Anyway, it takes some of your time, but you don't mind doing it. It's always good to watch them come around. Good luck! Let us know. Success stories are the best!!

Woke up this morning to some bad news, sadly the little guy didn't make it. We were sure that he would pull through the night cause he seemed like he was getting stronger but he didn't. The other thing is that if you read back through this post it says about how I had a power outage and I was worried about my eggs not hatching... Well I have had one hatch and one asisted hatch and that's it out of 8 eggs. When I had candled them before there were six that had stuff going on inside. What should I do abodt those ones?

I would have done the same thing. If the chick is taking over 24 hrs to hatch something might be wrong. It could be stuck. Sometimes they can take 24 hrs or more from pip to hatch. I let them go at least 24 hrs then if I need to I will carefully pick off the shell around the area the chick would normally zip without tearing the membrane and with a Q-tip or my finger I moisten the membrane where I picked off the shell then wrap the egg in a warm moist towel and put it back into the incubator. After a while if the chick doesn't hatch then I help it. If I see any blood I stop and immediately but the egg back into the incubator for a while longer. Then if the egg doesn't hatch I help it out. Sometimes they die but sometimes they live.

So sorry.

You did what you could. Not making it through the night, hmm, could have been something completely out of your hands. Something else going on. We never know.

NVM...trying to get this right....

Ok, if you left them in, are there any more pips yet? How many days are you on? If the power was out for a while, that could slow down the hatching time for a day or two. Give them a couple of extra days. Good luck.

I would give them an extra day or two. I had a hatch last week where I was about to toss the eggs that hadn't hatched after being in the incubator for a couple of extra days, when I opened the hatcher and took one of the eggs out I heard a peep and discovered that the chick had pipped the bottom of the shell. I did help it hatch so I left the other egg for another day but nothing.
