Practical Uses for Button Quail?

My brother once snuck a python into the house when he use to live here,he said he would just keep it here for a couple of weeks until he could fnd an apartment. It was huge it was about 3 feet long and he hid it in his closet of course. My mom found out and kicked him out of course

.Now he also has a kingsnake thats 4 feet long in a tank thats 6 feet long. He complains at how muck rats are so maybe I could sell him exess males.

I am not a snake person, but this was funny.

Rozzie - Hatchery males. Nobody wants them, everybody buys pullets and not straight runs. They have to do something with them and they have to plan ahead. That's why at certain times of the year (off season), you can only get pullets, males are needed to fill those orders.

My snakes also only eat live food. So I can't use frozen. Picky snakes I guess. I used to feel bad about feeding my snakes but after I hear about people culling animals just because they don't have the "right looks" I didn't feel so bad. And luckily all my snakes were always larger species so it's a really quick kill. I have a few bantam roos that I can't get rid of. My chickens are illegal so I hide them and I can't hide the roosters. I have 3 bantams chicks that are 5 weeks old and a very obviously roos. I tried Craigslist and the WI thread on here but no one wants them so if I can't find anyone to take them they will become snake food. It's just the way it is in my house. Everything has to contribute and have a purpose or it's out.

So other then food for pets there are no other uses for them. My husband asked me this the other day.....so I'd love to give him an answer. Pet food and bird cage cleaners??? I've got 5 breeding pairs....someone needs to give me more ideas or these guys might have to go.

Hubby's rule...all animals that I hatch or bring home must be able to be eaten.

Hubby's rule...all animals that I hatch or bring home must be able to be eaten.

That's our problem and is close to our own household rule: all animals must work for a living (even if they don't know they are working). Our barn cats catch mice, our livestock guard dog guards, our chickens provide eggs, our geese provide down, etc.

Keeping something around because it's pretty doesn't count. Practically everything we have we think is pretty and comforting in addition to what they provide.

But Buttons are still so tempting...

I can't imagine a bird the size of a button having to earn their keep, they are soo small and do not eat that much. I have 2 of them and no there is not much use in them except being pets. Full grown they are the size of a hatchling chick.

If your hubby thinks everything you have should be eaten, I hope you dont have a dog..

I hear ya about that! I have too many dogs and too many (house) cats but I go by the rule, "if they give you pleasure, are beautiful to look at or serve a purpose, they are valuable." Notice the OR. Everything in your life does not have to earn it's keep. Sometimes just being nice to look at counts! Terri O--who has way too many "nice to look at" for a single person...but that makes me a happy person! (oh yeah, I am finally getting a male button for my girl!)
