First of all your family is in my prayers. It is REALLY hard raising a mentally ill child through puberty. My boss has a son who is in the high end of functioning Aspergers and he has had some extremely violent streaks. Broke my boss's arm once, threatened alot, broke alot of household items throwing them at his parents.
I would understand your sister not wanting to give up on her grandchild, however, sometimes it is best for even short term treatment. To get away from the situation, maybe change his meds as his hormones have changed. This is what helps my boss's child from time to time. He is 18 now and getting a bit better, but they still have struggles.
