Hello,
I am learning how to have backyard chickens and am just starting the learning process. My yard is ~18k sq. ft with a 5ft cyclone fence around its perimeter. I regularly see coyotes on the hill outside our yard and raccoons in our fenced in yard. I have read about the need for a secure coop, etc. but will I be inviting coyotes regularly into my yard? I read coyotes can scale a 10ft fence. Will having chickens be the bait to have coyotes making attempts to try and get the chickens regularly. I worry cause I have a 65 pound dog and cat who go out regularly. These are also 'city' coyotes which I believe can be a bit more bold. Any thoughts or suggestions. I also have a space outside the fenced area that I can place the chickens as another option.
Thank you.

Make sure you have a very secure pen. Fort Knox type. Hardware cloth is very good.
