Pregnant dog??

Pics
I woke up at dawn today and as I went down to the animals, I heard a noise of puppies! She had them in the nesting area that she had made yesterday! They were all muddy but still alive! I counted 7 so far. We moved the pups and Duchess to the welping box. It was in the garage which was closed. The temperature outside was room temperature. I gave them a heating lamp too.

Goodness, this is so great to see! She's been on my mind all weekend, wondering if she'd pull through. I'm so glad she did, and she managed it like a champ!

Mom is going to need a lot of calcium to keep her growth from being stunted or causing bone deformities, since the puppies took a lot from her during their development. If you can't get calcium or bone meal supplements, bones will do fine (dogs enjoy them with the marrow still inside!) Mozzarella and goat cheese are also great sources of calcium.

You'll want to get Duke neutered ASAP. Since he's a "teenager" in dog years, his temperament can be unpredictable. He might try to harm the puppies so that mom will go back into heat and he can mate her again. It's important that he's neutered, especially if he's around mom -- female dogs can go into heat immediately after birth, although it's rare. It's more common in young mothers however, since their hormones are already imbalanced from their age and the added pregnancy.

I'm so glad everything turned out well! :)

I’ve given her lots of calcium and I’ve scheduled an appointment to get Duke neutered
