Pregnant dog??

Probably because someone else in this thread said to give her "lots of calcium."
Because some people think that it will help the mother produce more milk and to not become calcium deficient. But you can actually cause eclampsia by supplementing with too much calcium and it should not be done willy nilly.
Duchess in particular is at risk of calcium deficiency because of her age and the fact she isn't done growing, which means that her puppies took a lot of calcium that she would otherwise use for her own growth and development.

That said, eclampsia is very dangerous and needs to be kept in mind.

Until you hear from the vet, she should be given a high-quality puppy food that's high in protein and calcium. While you can supplement calcium in things like dairy, I wouldn't use it much because she really doesn't need an upset stomach right now. At the most I'd give her a bone chew, or a tiny piece of mozzarella or goat cheese (these are low in lactose and less likely to upset her stomach.)

With all things, it should be done in moderation!

Edit: Also, don't give her Tums again, especially in large amounts. Human calcium supplements (cholecalciferol, Tums, Caltrate, Viactiv) can be toxic in large amounts. Hypercalcemia can result in kidney stones, weakened bones, arrhythmia, and renal failure.

I can’t find Duchess! This morning she was here and now she’s not! I looked everywhere on my 10 acres. Will she come back and what could she be doing?? Would she really leave her pups?
