Pregnant goat???

She looks pregnant to me. I think you're right about a false positive especially since they are supposed to shave the belly before. That's why even with women they don't try and do an ultrasound over our shirts. The probe HAS to touch bare skin for accurate results.

I like your opinion too! I thought it was odd as well. Hopefully, I'll be able to call them and say "Hey. You need to update your standard of practice because we just had babies." I was just so upset by the initial news that I didn't ask more questions and that was foolish.I should have had them do a blood draw and been more thorough. Lesson learned. Thank you!

Thank you, I like the way you think! I am trying to be guarded, but still hopeful and watchful. My hubby thinks I am nuts and should just believe the ultrasound. As you can see, after I got over the shock and cried a like, I started having 2nd guesses. My cousin says she is suspicious also. She is a vet tech and has seen false negatives. From what I've read late stage can be very difficult, in addition to technician ability and depth settings of the machine and how the doe carries. I'm in a dark hole here, lol! Been reading way too much. The vet sees goats, but they specialize in equine. She did not shave her and only tried for few minutes.

I still can't evoking explain the heat cycles other than her two 2 year old does were in raging heat at the same time. I have also read that there are some dos that will display signs of heat every month throughout their entire pregnancy although not often. Have you ever heard of such a thing? And do you think it's possible?

The buck she was with and impregnated her last time has 4 girls that he services every year and he's never missed the mark yet in 7 years. If she's not pregnant it were definitely not be because of him. This is my last opportunity to breed her with my friend's buck as she is selling her herd this year. I was only going to do it the one time 3 years ago, but figured this is my last opportunity, why not!?

Maybe she'll give me April fool's babies and the laugh will be on all the naysayers🤣
She didn't shave her?? Yea, she could definitely have a false negative for sure hair gets in the way of ultrasounds and can mess them up. Our vet shaves the area first. I have a doe that has shown heat signs at least once a month for the first three months of her pregnancy. Some does DO show interest in bucks throughout their pregnancy, I have a doe like that 😅. Where are you located? Are there bucks for stud near you so you can breed your does after your friend moves away?

I blood test all my does at 45+ days after breeding to be absolutely sure. blood tests are like 98% accurate because they test for a specific protein in the blood that only pregnant does carry.

She looks wide to me but if she’s a wide doe it’ll be hard to tell and she’s not swollen yet witch in normal. She probably won’t get swollen until about a month out. Sometime it can be hard to tell I’d just say wait and see. That’s what I do. And even if the vet said she’s open I’d still wait. I’ve had does ack like they’re in heat when other girls are in heat too.

Thank you, that's good to know. I figured she may be "herd" cycling. I am sure there are bucks around, but my goats are pets and its just for fun so I doubt I would do it again so I am really hoping she has babies!

Thanks! I plan to wait.... until April 10th since that's the 155th day after the last day she was with him. Hope she surprises me sooner and doesn't keep me waiting that long!

My other concern is I was feeding her a little goat pellet and some alfalfa for the last few weeks. Not a lot, but to help with baby growth. After the ultrasound I stopped thinking I was only fattening her up. Should I start that again? She has free choice grass hay and minerals.

She looks pregnant to me, I would continue her on her pregnancy feed and wait and see. I’ve heard of does displaying signs of heat while pregnant, I’m not positive but I believe some of my does have done that as well. And if you can feel babies kick then she’s definitely pregnant - I have one due April 23 and I just felt the tiniest baby kick on her yesterday morning 😊

I like to blood test my goats for pregnancy about 30-45 days post-breeding. I don’t have access to an ultrasound machine, but I’ve heard that they’re difficult to use late gestation, and you definitely have to shave a spot before ultrasounding 🤔
