I got on your blog and seen that you bred this mare (I think) to Sempatico right? That looks to be an amazing cross. Does he go back to Samber?

There is one stallion I've really been looking at for my TB mare. He is a son of Samber and goes back to Obelisk who my vet worked with personally and said he had a great temperament and raved about him. Anyway, enough of my rambling.

Pretty mare.

Samber is Tico's great-grandsire. Sempatico is actually pretty well known to stamp his get with a fabulous temperament. My girl is a Halo bred TB and could use a little water on her fire....lol.

ACK! You mentioned a stallion with Samber and did not post a picture.....this is very serious!

TigerLily's bag went down but for a few days the size has been consistent. Last night she seemed kinda tender so I left her alone. Ive been giving her Omaline 300 with a sprinkle of Calf Manna on top. Night before last the baby was really active at dinner time, & I got a back massage

. I luv this baby already lol. Her stomach has also gotten larger. Last night I looked at her & I was like O_O wow. 2 days ago she wasnt that big. BTW Yes Im still freaking out.

OK guys I need help cuz im sorta freaking out! Went out to feed this morning & TigerLily's lower stomach is SQUARED out. I remember a while back when I was doing research I saw pics of something similar on another mare & she had a ruptured something or another

In this one you can really see what im talking about. About 1/2 way up the red oval I added you can see the shadowing where the square starts

This one not so much. I think I put the red line too close.

If something was ruptured she would be in agony and you would know. It looks like the baby is rolling around in there actually. But it does not hurt to go out, take her her respiration, pulse, temp and cap refill. If something is wrong or starting to go wrong the vitals will be off even before she is in any sort of pain that you can observe.

A normal temp is 99-101.
Check heart rate also - anything above 50 bpm would be a cause for concern. You can find a pulse under the left jaw or behind the left elbow.

That's called boat bottom belly.

Generally it means the foal has dropped and is in position.

My mare the day she foaled, she had boat bottom.

I check vitals in a specific order, because the cap refill pisses my old gelding off and when any animal gets annoyed their respiration and heart rate jump up. You need a thermometer, watch with second hands and a cheap 9 dollar stethoscope from walmart works just fine. Its a very good idea to check what your horses averages and normals are before they seem ill, that way you have something to compare them too.

First respiration, simply stand at her side and watch how many breaths she take in one min. 8-12 is average

Second heart rate, put stethoscope in ears and take the head of it and place it right behind her left elbow, just about were the girth should go. A horses heart beat sound like a big LUB-DUB, each lub-dub noise is one heart beat. Count how many heart beats in one min. 36-42 is average, young or ill stock it will be higher. anything consistently over 50/60 at rest means somethings not right.

Temp, easy enough check temp lol. 99-101 is average.

Cap refill, take your thumb and press firmly on gums under the lip, count how long it takes for normal color to return. Usually two seconds.

Heres a page on vitals that goe sin way more detail http://www.equinevetservice.com/vitalsigns.htm

I
think the baby is just moving around and getting into a good position, however as I did with some tb mares check her vitals and temp especially daily towards the end. You may catch on when early labor starts and get to watch the birth then.
