Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Pics
My ducks aren’t big about climbing on stuff, but for some reason, the one looking in the window climbed up on my pile of firewood outside. I just happened to be sitting inside and saw her. Lol She does not have a name. I have 42 calls at the moment (lost 2 in the past couple months, hawks I assume) and only a few of them have names. I have quite a few that look identical, so I can’t tell them apart anyway :D I do have one grey girl that gets right under my feet at treat time. Her name is Squirt because of how she would squirt thru the water in the sink when I first hatched her.

Brrrr -9 degrees??!! Wow. Do heated waterers even work at those temps? We’ve had some days get under 20, but we primarily hover around freezing. Most days get above freezing, but dip below overnight. We’ve already had more snow this year than we do in most years. Luckily the calls can usually just walk on top of the snow. They truly crack me up and I enjoy watching their antics.
Lol that’s perfect timing that you were able to get a picture! Wow 42! That’s great but I can only imagine how busy you must be! My nine take quite a bit of work! :eek:
So sorry you lost two to predators. I’ve had attempted hawk attacks on mine multiple times. Luckily they haven’t taken any. I had one hawk last year pick up Splash, my little black bibbed, carry him behind my fence and try to kill him. Thank god I was outside and saw it all happening! I ran over and was able to scare him off. Poor little Splash was traumatized from the event and ran out into the tall grass for about an hour till I found him. The hawk had injured his chest and almost pulled his eye out. That was a very close call but thankfully he made a full recovery.
Funny enough I have a grey call that I named Squirt originally but I now call her Cammie! :gig
That is a great name and sounds like it suites her perfect! I would have a very hard time if mine looked identical! I don’t have more than 1 of any color!

Yep! It’s definitely fridgid! Nope the heated bowls keep freezing too! I have to go out every hour to refill the bowls. That’s good that it hasn’t been as cold for you! The calls have been mad that they haven’t been able to go outside! Mine crack me up too! They are hilarious with their antics! :lol:

:hit that sucks. :hugs
Did you remove it? I know you can probably tell, but I’ve also been surprised how they can change from one day to the next, so I leave them in until I’m positive.
Thank you!
I left it for now. I’m almost certain it’s a quitter but I left it just to be sure. I will remove it at day 10 most likely. Yep me too! I’ve had one that I marked with an X hatch one time! I was glad I left it in. I’ve never seen one like this before. It was moving around on day 6 with decent veining. By day 7 it had no veins at all just a floating embryo. I haven’t ever seen the veins breakdown that quickly. I’ll try to get a candling picture tommorow.

@shawluvsbirds and @WVduckchick

Here’s number 4s the quitter. Safe to toss now? No veining at all. Been like this since day 6.
