Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Hello gang! Glad to hear the eggs are doing ok. All 9 of mine are still growing well, plus I added 4 chicken eggs so they all hatch together and all 4 of those are growing. 2 weeks to go!

I added some tape to the inside of my NR360 (on 3 sides) as tabs to pick up the lid. They have been a big help!



Took this video the other day, we’ve had snow a few times, then it starts melting, and my gutter has a crack... guess I can’t fix it now. Lol

I’m overjoyed to see your adorable photos and video!! They are distracting me from daydreaming about hatch day!

I’m so glad to hear your call incubation is going good! Got my fingers crossed for your little calls and chicks! Lol mine have 20 days to go and it feels like an eternity. I’m looking foreword to seeing photos of them when they hatch!

I didn’t think about tape that is a really smart idea. I think I’ll try that next hatch.

That is so funny that your calls were just sitting under the gutter! They really were getting a shower!


Love the ducks playing in the snow/puddles! It has been too cold around here to let the ducks out. -9 degrees Fahrenheit! Everyone has been staying warm in the shed.
Your snowy calls are gorgeous! The little call looking in the window is too cute! Does she have a name? how many calls total do you currently have?

It looks like egg 4s has quit.
Everyone else is looking ok. I’m not sure why as it was looking alright yesterday. It was one with weaker veining yesterday.

Thanks! Glad you’re following my call duck hatch adventure! Yes, I have quite the array of pets around here!
I should update my signature because now I have 8 cats ( 1 is a foster), 8 rabbits, 3 guineas, a dog, 9 call ducks, 1 pekin and 1 crested mallard rescue duck, a turtle, a frog, and too many fish to count.
things are hectic... I’ll be hatching a couple batches of ducklings and possibly guinea keets this spring/summer too

My ducks aren’t big about climbing on stuff, but for some reason, the one looking in the window climbed up on my pile of firewood outside. I just happened to be sitting inside and saw her. Lol She does not have a name. I have 42 calls at the moment (lost 2 in the past couple months, hawks I assume) and only a few of them have names. I have quite a few that look identical, so I can’t tell them apart anyway I do have one grey girl that gets right under my feet at treat time. Her name is Squirt because of how she would squirt thru the water in the sink when I first hatched her.

Brrrr -9 degrees??!! Wow. Do heated waterers even work at those temps? We’ve had some days get under 20, but we primarily hover around freezing. Most days get above freezing, but dip below overnight. We’ve already had more snow this year than we do in most years. Luckily the calls can usually just walk on top of the snow. They truly crack me up and I enjoy watching their antics.

Did you remove it? I know you can probably tell, but I’ve also been surprised how they can change from one day to the next, so I leave them in until I’m positive.

Woohoo! I looked into those. Ended up going with a 30-gallon cow stock tank. I had a deep hole where we had buried the boat, so I needed something deeper than the preformed ponds come. Are you going to put a drain in it? Duck pools get super nasty, so be prepared.

Oh a drain is a must. I had a goose growing up. I know that particular struggle. The sludge.

I haven't actually seen it yet. Hopefully it'll work. I figured I can probably use it for something, even if it won't work as the main pond. Dad said it's big, so we'll see.
