I’m very sad to say that Cami had passed away when I checked on her this morning. I’m devastated.
I was going to try to get her into the vet today but it was too late.

That sounds just like whatever happened to my Daphne duck. I Never noticed a thing until she suddenly started gasping for breath and gurgling. I started her on antibiotics the day I noticed, but she died overnight. Thanks so much.
Yes I checked her over really well. No bumblefoot or signs of injury. Her eyes were alert and she had no nasal discharge or discharge from her eyes. She was breathing very heavy and through her mouth as if she was in respiratory distress and she was unable to quack. There was a loud audible almost gurgling noise which had me thinking aspiration pneumonia but I’m just not sure. All of the respiratory symptoms started early that morning. Another thing is that the keel bone protruded more than the others and she felt lighter than normal. She was able to spend her last day with all her babies and the other calls.
The person I gave her eggs to is incubating them. She was nice enough to agree that if she hatched a grey, she’d give it back to me. I still have all of her other babies and all the ducklings she hatched out a few weeks ago so that’s ok. I may try to incubate this last egg she laid.
Aww, I’m so sorry you lost your Daphne duck in a similar way. It was heartbreaking seeing Cami struggle. That sounds just like whatever happened to my Daphne duck. No clue. No one else ever got sick. I had wondered if it's possible as much as those ducks Mount each other in the water if they could get pushed under long enough to aspirate and perhaps that turns into a pneumonia like thing.Aww, I’m so sorry you lost your Daphne duck in a similar way. Did you ever figure out what caused it? Cami was in with all the others that day so I sure hope it’s nothing contagious. The others seem healthy except for one who was sneezing this morning. It sounds like it might have got a piece of food or something stuck so probably unrelated. I added some ACV to everyone’s water and applied a respiratory balm to their bills. Hoping they all stay healthy.![]()
Hmm, I bet it would be possible. Glad no one else was affected. I was thinking Cami could have aspirated. I played back my little duck camera and watched for any clues. She swam a few times that day but only by her self. She had been separated from the others for the 3-4 days before that because of a mysterious limp that came on then went away. I wonder if the other ducks knew there was something wrong with her because Sox, her little duckling she hatched out, just sat beside her the entire day and didn’t leave her side.No clue. Thank you so much for the condolences. It really means a lot to have such great byc friends to help me through the hard times. It surely was devastating to lose precious Cami. Thanks as well for the virtual hugs, they are much appreciated.I am so sorry that you lost sweet beautiful Cami @FunnyfarmMidwest
@shawluvsbirds I'm sorry you lost your precious Daphne duck.
My heart goes out to both of you. This is so devastating. I'm sending you both virtual hugs
That is absolutely precious and heart warming! I wish my little Calls felt this way about me, but I'll keep trying. My big ducks, my Buff mostly, will follow me around. She thinks I'm the Queen of earthworms, crickets, and minnows, so in reality she's only following me in hopes of first dibs at the "good stuff". I'll take it as a win! It'd be impossible for me to deny them wanting to come inside at night. How old are these adorable duckies now? They grow up so fast! The rate that time flies by for me, I hate to blink.Losses just suck.
On a happier note, Phoenix, Gharth and Rex are doing well. The other ducks shun them a little, and run them off, but they don’t seem to be hurting them. The trio still wants to come inside at night, and I can’t close the door on them. They come in and lay on an old rug until I go to bed, then they go into a big cardboard box to sleep. I let them out when I get up and they follow me outside until dark.
