Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

So far it seems to be doing good. They haven’t eaten a whole lot yet, but I weighed them today so I can monitor if it gains on track with its hatchmate.

:love Happy Mothers Day to everyone!
I’m glad that it seems to be doing good! It’s a good idea that your monitoring it’s weight. I really hope it thrives! I know that it’s in the best possible care with you so I bet it has a good chance! It’s absolutely adorable! ❤️ :fl

A much needed Bobbles update! He is 5 weeks old today! He is a bit bigger and is feathering out! He still seems to be doing well. He runs around, eats, drinks and poops normally still. The only thing I’m worried about is his little legs are weak (not too bad) just to the point that he sits down often. He is getting B-vitamin so I’m hoping that will fix. He also shivers sometimes (I’m thinking he can’t regulate temperature well). He is doing well though and acts like a normal little duckling! He loves to be mischievous! :p

Thanks so much! :hugsBobbles does have a pretty short bill compared to the others. He (don’t know why I call Bobbles a boy when I don’t know gender yet ) is such a sweetie and has been stunning since hatch! I’m really excited to see how he’ll turn out! I believe he is a black pied call. He has stayed so tiny so I’m wondering how big he’s going to get as an adult. His siblings (same age) moved out a few weeks ago and are almost feathered out now.:love
His favorite thing to do is to peck at the camera!:gig

Aww Call ducks are adorable. Please keep sharing his adventures 😀.
He does maybe have a bit to much aerodynamic head/bill for a call though. (See attached photo of my call for reference, aerodynamics of a brick wall 😅)
I’m so curious how he will turn out...

They sure are! I will definitely keep sharing his adventures!
Yes, my calls are definitely more “pet quality” with their bills being on the longer side.
What a beauty your little call is! A very nice bill and shape! I’d love to see some photos of your adult calls!
I am too! He is my first black pied!

So far my 3 ducklings are doing good! One had curled feet, one had it's neck twisted and a bad eye but I gave them water with vitamins every hour all day long yesterday and put eye drops in the bad eye duckling today. Dipping their bill into the water a couple times because they were too weak to do it themselves.
So thankful today to see them running around full blast today! The one that had the bad eye all swelled up is fine now and can see fine. (in the pics it's head is wet from the eye drops) I hope they continue to grow and thrive!

Nice Calls!

Hi friends! For some strange reason I always stop receiving notifications whenever a thread gets way up there on replies. I hate I missed so many adorable pictures!!! I came to ask about angel wing and at what point you start wrapping. One of mine has a bit of the hitchhiker look but it's only 3.5 weeks old so it's just some pins pushing the down out and won't it lose these feathers fairly quickly for their nuptial plumage coming in? I feel like I should just keep a close eye on it, but I wanted to ask the experts. It may be just the pins coming in and getting acclimated to the difference. I don't know.

Another question is if anyone has noticed feather growth giving any indication of gender? Three out of 4 had tail feathers before Faith (the runt) even started getting them. Faith seems to run a little bit behind the others, but seems perfectly fine. She's incredibly shy and just feminine. I keep thinking that she reminds me of my Tom (my female Buff Duck) in her personality. I find myself curious about the gender of my cuties constantly! I'll think one of them is sounding awfully quite and then it's just like the others. They're going to be whatever they're going to be and I'm perfectly fine with that but I'm just so darned curious!!! I'm going to drive myself 🤪 crazy!

I'll get some pictures tomorrow
