Preparing to set call and pekin duck eggs! Hatch day should be March 4, 2021 if all goes well!

Wow! This is the first I'm seeing of this so I'm sorry if you've already said all of this before. How old is the baby? What did you end up having to do? Is the initial swelling in front of the eye outside of the eyelid and then the swollen area is starting to cover the eye? I'm so curious about the different treatments, especially with things that are never seen before. I'm sure this Lil one is getting phenomenal care. I'll be keeping her in my prayers 💜

I may not have mentioned here before now. I can’t remember lol
A couple weeks ago, I noticed her eye was swollen. Within a few days, it was all ballooned up. I have a feeling that she got something down under the eyelid and didn’t get it out, so it got infected. It could be cancerous, or maybe just a growth. I really don’t know. I can’t justify taking her to a vet, so I figured I’d learn something and hopefully not kill her!
So I think the skin surrounding the mass is actually her eyelid. Imagine getting something down in your bottom eyelid and not getting it out! I’m clipping, slicing, whatever I can cut and scoop with. So far she has been pretty tolerant. After a few minutes though, she gets irritated so I’ve just been working on it a few minutes at a time. Her mom is totally pissed at me for stealing her. But I hope she will return to her family sometime. My white hen hatched her on July 5th. So she’s about 5 weeks old.
As of pics I had from July 30th, it looked normal. By August 5th or so, it was swollen. Day before yesterday it was way worse so I caught her and brought her inside, and started working on it. The video is from this morning, still at it this evening.
When/if I get it out, I’ll post a bunch of progress pics.

Do you have anyone that can help you hold her?

My daughter helped hold her this last time. I was able to wrap it a lot quicker with an extra set of hands. My problem is finding the joints in the wing to make sure I'm doing it correctly. I've almost given up on holding her wing spread open. She freaks out if I even touch her wing. I was wondering if something was actually injured but it's just her. She freaks out if I do any manipulating to either wing whatsoever. She LOVES to be held and loved on, and she's actually very affectionate, but her wings are off limits. I'm going to leave her wing taped up for 4 days this time and whenever I take it off, I'm not going to wait to get it taped again. In a matter of hours of removing the tape to give her a break, her wing was laid out and over like before I taped it up initially 🙄

I don't spread it open. I tuck them the way they should be and hold it folded to pull out and wrap.

Have you scoured YT for any vids on wrapping?

I wrapped just like this ^^^ video. Is there an easier way that's effective? If I can just tuck her wing/place it the way I want it to stay then wrap, that will probably be the sweetest news I've heard in a while! I never know who to trust on YT, so I haven't looked through there ☺️. Maybe the way I'm wrapping is painful to Maggie 😢 I didn't even think about any other wrapping options except for wrapping the wing to the body, leaving other wing exposed and wrapping in a figure 8. Maggie didn't want to walk wrapped like this and whenever she tried, she was able to squirm out of it quickly. I am super excited at the possibility of an easier wrap for Maggie's AW‼️ So you tuck the wing and then wrap it (while holding it in place but slightly away from the body for wrapping) in one quick swoop? That seems like something that I would be able to do with a little less stress. I'll try vet wrap again with this method. I bet you've been thinking something along the lines of "what the heck is so difficult? How is she having so much trouble? It's not rocket science. It's just a basic wrap job. :th" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Poor Maggie......

Maggie and I both thank you so much for digging into my ridiculousness. Seriously, I feel like an idiot 🤣 Here I was calling her a drama queen. Poor Maggie.

Try watching this one! This is how I do it. Though I don't use scotch tape if that's what that is. I use Transpore medical tape.

Looking forward to watching/learning from this journey, in hopes of never needing to do anything like this. She's lucky to be in caring hands, no matter the outcome. So is her eyeball still healthy? After my experience last year with an Avian vet, I'm with you 💜 I'll be praying

Catherine is the star of the show! Isn't she adorable?! It's crazy but I did start watching that video a while back whenever I thought I might have to wrap Lylah's wing, but she just never needed any treatment and I never finished the video. So a few questions, do you also wrap the wing to the body, like they mention toward the end? Do you alter the diet while treating? I've got everyone on Purina Duck Pellets and it's 19% protein. I'm guessing that has more to do with how you look at the nutritional part of AW, but maybe not while actively treating. I'm not sure. I hate to alter a young ducks complete diet, but I really don't have the experience here to know for certain. My internet was in and out since I'm out in the shop for work today, but did I miss the part where the time frame was mentioned? How long do you leave them wrapped?

I don't wrap to the body or change their diet. I leave for 24 hours and check. Since hers has been left longer though (anyone feel free to correct me here if I'm wrong), I would leave it on for a day and a half or so and then check.

I'll remove the wrap she's got now. I used microspore tape but I'm pretty sure I have some transpore tape around here.
On another note, I noticed Faith laying down yesterday on multiple occasions. Today I'm seeing the same but found that she's got a little limp 😢 As soon as I get to a stopping point and these pups are safely caged, I'm going to bring her in the shop to check her over. I didn't see anything alarming while just watching her, so hopefully it's nothing serious. They were crazy wild playing in and out of their pool yesterday morning so maybe she just landed wrong. She is able to use that leg and foot but it's obvious that it's bothering her. Since she is resting and taking it easy on her own, I'm hoping that I don't have to confine her by herself, even within the flock. Like I said before, it could be worse so I'm not complaining, but I hate seeing them uncomfortable.

In that video, she's basically just holding it out like that to show you where the wrap goes.
You don't need to really extend the wing out to do it.
All you need to do is get a piece of the wrap around the flights first, then back around the whole Wing to hold the flights under.
However you can accomplish this is fine. The problem with not going around the flights first and then back around the wing..
Is that when they wiggle around they can get those flights back on top of the wing instead of tucked under. It's very hard to explain in words, I hope that makes sense.
