Preppers were right! No toilet paper in the stores due to Coronavirus scare.

people are getting so stupid with this whole corona virus stuff they should of been washing hand more regardless of an illness and since its airborne washing hands wont help since people still dont know how to cover their mouths!!

I think many of us people raising chickens are probably very good at hand hygiene. We are already used to washing our hands after tending our birds. At least, that is a habit I have practiced from the start of raising my flock.

But, yeah, cough into your sleeve and not on your hands - please. Good hygiene that helps us all.

Toilet paper and dog food were the top sellers in a local big-lots type of store here. Cases (4 bottles per case) were also flying out of the door. Some households buying three such cases of bleach. I've been preparing for some sort of disaster for months, I just didn't know WHAT that disaster might be. Price tags weren't posted on shelves but was close to 3x the normal prices at the register. Cashier ran my credit card three times, strongly implying that I could speed up the line if I'd just pay in cash; told her to run the card again (It's a DEBIT card and certainly enough money in the account to cover purchases!).
I have canned and dried food suitable for human consumption to last about six months or as long as the water holds out. I plan on rainwater catchment from my metal roof if necessary. I anticipate a rather grand barbecue of everything in the deep freezer if we lose electricity, feeding the dogs and chickens well on leftovers. The vacant lot across the street will become the garbage disposal of the neighborhood, as the buzzards are already accustomed to finding road kill and other kitchen waste unsuitable for livestock in that location and there is no home on that property.
I have 88 pounds of high-quality game-bird feed in the freezer and feed it to my 20 quail & two chickens (supplementing low protein grains like rice and corn to the chickens to avoid disease from the ultra high protein). This is just shy of 2 month supply for the birds. I have a four month supply of dry dog food. I inherited a duck awhile back, she came to me blind in one eye and sickly, she wasn't laying when she arrived, started laying after 10 days of antibiotics, laid daily for about 10 days then quit laying again. She's currently in the slow cooker; before she became too sick to eat. Upon processing her, she had no egg in production, her crop was empty, her bowel was mostly empty with the contents mostly liquid. She exhibited no other signs of illness. Her gizzard seemed healthy and a good color, her heart and liver looked healthy. Her spleen was leaking a bit, but it's possible that I was a bit rough as I eviscerated her, otherwise it looked healthy. Her lungs were a good color.
I've managed to put this supply together by just adding a case of this or that into my cart when I did my regular shopping and storing it in plastic totes in the back bedroom.
Didn't mean to write a book, but if any of this is helpful to anyone, then it was worth the time to write it.
I will be praying for a speedy and favorable outcome to this global crisis.

Dear Wife wanted me to buy anti-bacterial soap, but how is that going to effectively combat a virus? Anyway, lots of people now concerned.

Get used to washing your hands, a lot. Obviously most chicken keepers are already used to that routine, but we're washing up every time we come back home from going anywhere.

It’s been insane over here, my Dad overheard at Costco an employee talking saying that they’d gotten a load of bottled water and by 3pm it was completely gone. He can’t find paper towels anywhere, so we haven’t been using them at all. He bought a ton of toilet paper, bread, and other frozen foods. I’ve had a strange obsession with Cheerios lately and he had bought another box, but last night I noticed it was hidden... no doubt from me! my mom has been sick lately and can only eat a few foods without pain (she is getting better) so my dad has been really stressed trying to stock up on those things.

Sorry things are so stressful for your family. I know "normal" life is stressful enough for many. This Coronavirus scare no doubt will hit some people hard.

I have no idea why toilet paper has a run it, vis-à-vis this Coronavirus scare. It is what it is and I'm just rambling about the situation in our town. Hand sanitizer was gone some time last week. Dear Wife wanted me to buy anti-bacterial soap, but how is that going to effectively combat a virus? Anyway, lots of people now concerned.

It's crazy. Sounds like it may only be a matter of time before shortages hit here if this continues =/
