Prepping FLOUR tortillas

We have about an 11" cast iron round griddle that we heat until pretty hot then just throw them on there until heated on one side the flip over until they are lightly browned on both sides.

The best are the flour tortillas deep fried into dipping chips. I just use the store bought ones and cut into wedges and fry them in a little fryer that we have called a "Fry Daddy". They are so light and airy - we almost refer them over corn. Warning be careful how many you cook up since they will all disappear since you can't stop eating them.

Have you ever used whole wheat flour w/your Grandma's recipe?

I have some stoneground given to me by a friend & need to use it up.

I usually use 1/2 & 1/2 AP & WW so things don't come out so heavy.

Terrie you brought back a memory for me!

When I was young and we'd visit Grandpa in AZ he'd take me to a shop where they made tortillas. We'd always buy 1 more bag than we were supposed to and then Grandpa and I would eat them on the way home. There is nothing yummier than a freshly made 'homemade' tortilla!!! They were paper and oooohhhhh so good!

Will have to try actually making some...

Can you make corn tortillas without the masher thing? I LOVE homemade corn tortillas, I DETEST store bought ones! Last time I tried making flour tortillas, they were kinda crispy

Yes you can make corn tortillas, buy the masa and I think they have recipe on the bag for making the dough. After that if you roll them out between wax paper it works awesome. I bought the press though. I love corn tortillas so I felt justified in spending 15 bucks for it.

can you hear me now? :

I would have no idea where to get the press! I'm not even sure if any stores in the area sell the masa, anything else I could use instead?

I have tried making homemade flour tortillas a couple of times, but I can never get them rolled out very well. They end up more like pita bread, LOL. Is there a trick or secret to rolling them out?

I would be surprised if your local grocery store doesnt sell masa. Either in the flour aisle, or if they have a Mexican section, check there.
