President vs. Arizona

Chickened, a tax break is not subsidizing anything.

Why is gas so expensive? Well, it's actually cheap compared to Europe (because their governments are even more idiotic than ours), but when it comes right down to it, the price of oil is only part of the price of gas. A big reason, obviously, is inflation (which is much higher than Bernanke says it is), and the price of oil is going up for a variety of reasons, still-rising tensions with Iran not least among them. I do find it irritating that companies are not allowed to access our own large reserves. I believe there's one in Alaska, but nobody can drill because eco-freaks (Not the environmentalist next door, I mean people like the ones that put the "environment" before ANYTHING. The crazy ones who hate humans.) insist on badgering the government to prevent it on the grounds that it might scare a moose or something.

Yes they are not the same but are similar. You pay less either way at the taxpayers expense.

And for those that want to single out big oil for "tax breaks" I have news for you farmers get them timberland owners get them big businesses get them in the form of no property taxes, low corporate taxes, no business taxes all as incentives to build business in depressed area, heck I can get them by being green and ever hear of farm deferral? timber deferral? CRP program, dairy industry, automobile industry, even the internet gets a tax break. So why single out big oil which is something we all benefit from and I for one am glad they get them. Talk about the epitomy of the pot calling the kettle black!

The trouble is, with their record profits, big oil does not need tax breaks. Some of the breaks were due to end recently . Congress voted not to do so.

I hear this a lot and everyone that is truthful would trade their losing business for record profits. There is absolutely nothing wrong or illegal about making record profits. Those profits make it back into the economy, oil companies create jobs to make profit, I do not run my business at cost nor does anyone with any business sense. This jealous/envious attitude being cultivated in our country will never bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, what bridges that gap is hard work, determination and opportunity. Quantifying who does or does not need a tax break is relative. Alaskan residents get annuities from oil production and are grateful for it and you and I both benefit from cheap oil and energy which contributes to a robust economy which we need to survive in this world and maintain our way or level of existing. Do you really want to live like Europe? or Africa or other third world nations? Listen to what you are asking for and really think about the end results and where you would be without such things. Are you ready to give up your car, plastic, cosmetics and anything manufactured or transported by fuel to any degree based on capping a businesses' profit? If you really think of what you will lose by putting a economic form of class warfare in place and start singling out businesses that we are too dependant upon as a nation we are in trouble. You can always invest in oil and profit from it, or be bitter against it and be miserable.

The government gives me a tax break also and you if you buy a home for the first time, or have children you get one you also get a tax break for independants, interest on loans, they are called earned income credits. I can go on and on but I think you get my point and to be fair which is what you are implying with taking tax breaks from big oil then you will have no problem giving up your tax breaks ... right?

They're also investing record amounts to keep the oil flowing. Their profit margin is still about 9 to 10 %. If you invest more you should get more back. Look up Apples or Face books profit margin.

right here in AR the Gas company SWN expects profits of 450 million and is investing 21.5 billion in 2012 world wide... Exxon is dropping 3.5 Billion over the next 2 years on this gas field (they own a majority stake in BHP who is doing the work)

The way the MSM talks about it you get the image of a greedy drooling oil exec sitting on top of a pile of money and hording it lol... in fact all of the oil company's record profits are re invested or returned to the stock holders as a dividend... so if you don't like them profits buy some stock and you can get some of it back and you can vote about how the company is run...

Yes, of course, I am implying that I would be willing to give up my few dollars in tax credits if EXXON/MOBIL gives up its billions in tax credits. Why even an idiot like me can see that they are comparable and one in the same. Anyone who does not see your point must be a commie red and does not want to see those poor oil companies make their record zillions in profits. Why it is not piggish and outrageous, it is what is fair. The only pig here was Teddy when he went after the Trusts, commie that he was. Chickened...is it Halloween already?

Anyone here want to know a secret? The way to have chickened and every other Obama hater froth at the mouth and be ready to kill the oil company subsidies is to have that progressive, socialist commie in the White House want to keep them in place. The only reason any one is against removing the oil tax credits is because Obama (4 more years) wants to eliminate them. It really does not take a genius to see that these tax credits for oil companies are just plain nonsense. PS: if you have not done a useless act today, then support Ron Paul

One last thing/...fortunately for me I really do know how to read a company balance sheet and if you believe that the oil company profits are really not profits at all but just some cash that they will plow back into R & D then fairy tales are your reality. Declafred profits are just that, it is the net after everything is deducted, including R & D.

Just to give some reality to what we are talking about when we speak of the oil companies. EXXON/MOBIL for year end 2011 made a net net profit after paying everything, of $41 BILLION DOLLARS. That is AFTER they invested a record of $38 billion into development of new wells and other development. They paid a measly effective tax rate of 17%. Now get this, if their effective tax rate was 30% they still would have made more then 20 billion in net net profit. Now, keep in mind that eliminating the tax breaks would not come close to a tax rate of 30%, but if it did I want all you teary eyed oil lovers (Obama haters) to please send in your cash donations to those poor oil companies.

How much gas do you actually use in a year? figure about the same amount of gallons of gas multiply that by about 50 cents a gallon heck lets say 1.00 a gallon which is more than what the tax breaks amount to and that is the price you are complaining about personally that it may cost you to have the oil industry and the by products generated by it being cheap compared to other countries and what they pay per person. The government gives big oil a tax break and give you a fuel tax... me thinks you are mad at the wrong people. Think of it as socialized gasoline.

It is actually a fine example of redistribution of wealth by the government that we actually benefit from... everyone pays big oil by way of tax breaks and we all get cheap oil. The Obamazites should like that I would think. Coveting big oil tax breaks is wrong.
