Ok so to preface this I live in city limits and I’m not allowed roosters.

I got 6 “hens” this spring, 3 of which were Easter Eggers. I realize EE are mutts so who knows what their gene pool is. They are all around 2 months old.

The one that is concerning me is the grey and white. Pot pie is a Very pretty EE with big ear muffs. The comb is so hard to tell, but some of the tail feathers have a bit of a curl, and are narrower than my two brown EE. Which makes me wonder....do hens ever have curl to their tail? I also feel like Pot Pie is one of the more dominant of the flock (Buff O, Barred Rock, S.L Wyandotte, and EE). She/He runs toward the others and bobs her/his head up and down like I’m bigger than you.

When will I know for sure if it’s a male/female? When will a rooster start to crow? I’m going to be so sad if it’s a roo Pot Pie is super friendly. And I hate to get rid of any of my flock. Sorry for the blurry pics. It was hard to get them to sit still! First are of Pot Pie...male/female. The others are of my two brown EE I’m sure they are hens.

Haha my husband named them...chicken pot pie, nugget, dumpling, popcorn, and Alfredo. Tho they are total pets and won’t be ate.

So do some hens just have a curl to their tail feathers?

Yes they do. Its actually somewhat common for young pullets to have longer and curved sickle feathers. They tend to molt them out and not regrow them.
