Problem w/Oxine

Ok, it couldn't have been something I did...

...anyway I recently started using oxine and have mixed it in a quart sprayer (2 TBS oxine rest water), and sprayed it to saturate everything inside coop to disinfect and kill some mold that had started in one corner. A day or so later mold had spread down the whole length of one side of the coop! I thought oxine was tough on mold? Am I using it wrong? Do I have to scrub?

Anyone else having this problem? I posted this on a related thread but no one answered.

Did you use citric acid with it? Maybe make the solution stronger.

I can't for the life of me find any actual studies about the effectiveness of the stuff. I did buy some, too, but am still depending on my bleach & water. Everytime I try to research it I keep getting linked back to the same few breeder's pages that happen to sell it. I'm starting to wonder if it's a lot like DE......people claim it works because *other people claim it works. But it really does NOT work on worms and mites.

I'm guessing that you need more ventilation in your coop, to let extra humidity out. Too much moisture is what causes the mold in the first place. Although spraying Oxine in the coop was a nice idea, to kill mold, in an already too humid coop, all that extra water in the spray seems to have just helped the mold grow.

I'm sure some day you will have a good laugh over this, even though it's not funny now.

How much ventilation do you have open? How many chickens do you have and what size is your coop? The other things I'm wondering is if you have any water leaks in the coop or if your litter is too wet. Usually it's a ventilation problem, though.
