Processing Day Support Group ~ HELP us through the Emotions PLEASE!

A friend of ours is looking to buy a plucker. My DH asked last night if I want to go in 1/2 with him. Ummmm, yeah!

Lucky you! I plan to process my first bird today....

Processed my first one. And yes....the dispatch was the hardest part. I'm so glad I had a good sharp knife. Plucking took the longest and the insides took a little more wrangling than I expected to get out, but am pretty happy with the end result. It is "aging" in the frisgr right now ans I will do one more tomorrow. The other 2 will be done next week.

Knew you could do it! It's good to know you can provide for your family, isn't it. :D

Looks amazing! Your first one looks better than our latest ones, lol. Was it easy to get the little gland out of the tail? We've just been cutting the tail off to make it easier.

I cut the tail off too.

4 more made it to the freezer this morning. It took me 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. (hand plucking) One had a lot of fat around his heart, so I'm sure he wasn't going to live much longer. They are 10 1/2 weeks now, so I cut them in half before freezing. The remaining 7 will be done in the morning. I'm getting quite an assembly line process going, even by myself.

I also remove the tail...I have just gotten into the habit of cutting off the tail and then cutting around the abdominal cavity and pulling everything out still attached to the tail... this way the intestines are never cut into.

DH and I did 4 this morning also, we have another 20 to go over the next few weeks, we do them as we get groups of 6 or 8 that are up to size, we did just the 4 today because one belonged to a friend who wasn't up to doing it yet and it needed done (was getting way too big), so we picked our 3 biggest to do also, since we were going to have things set up. 3 of them were over 10 lbs live weight, the 4th was only 7 or so, but I didn't like his comb color, so opted to include him today.
