Running water - garden hose with sprayer
Sorry for quoting things from 2013, but I'm curious. Isn't this bad contaminant wise with who knows what getting in there? Plus I use my hose to fill waterers.... getting a new one would be $$ so I was wondering about filling gallon jugs with water to use for rinsing.

Another question---yeah, I'm full of 'em. I am thinking of dry plucking. I tried it on a bird killed by a hawk and found it easy, just a bit time-consuming. Bad idea? Scalding would be a pain in the rear, and skinning may or may not work due to the age of birds that need to go.

 You dare question a Pennsylvanian?! Kidding.
I am not sure of the whole context, but I don't stick the hose into the bird, and cooking would kill any germs if I did.
Dry plucking is more likely to tear the skin, but if it's practical for you, go for it.

True... I'm just jumpy about food poisoning despite making sure to cook everything to oblivion
Thank you!

Another thing. Do I need to chill birds in a cooler and then put them in the fridge or can I just put them straight in? I haven't been able to figure that out from reading.

Thank you! That is really helpful. I'll be processing in cooler/cold weather anyway because I really don't need swarms of flies and yellow jackets after MY dinner.

I was worried about using the hose/nozzle to fill waterers and such ,AFTER IT HAD BEEN IN THE BIRD, so to prevent contamination of the WATERERS , I bought a nozzle to use on the birds..the stores are clearing them out about now and I paid less than $2,
but I tend to get lung and such every where.. I bleach anyway so I don't know what I am worried about... paranoid I know LOL
If I have a couple of birds I put them in the fridge to rest.. if I have say, a turkey and 6 chickens I stuff the cooler and the fridge.
