We had our CT chickenstock today, and PC and Drumstick and some others processed a few birds there. I hate to admit it, but it was actually fun and we all had a fantastic time and great learning expirence. I know that I am now confident that when the time comes I will be able to process my own birds. Thank you PC for sharing this hard but delicious task to us

Does anyone remember if we dipped in order of the line up?

I'm trying to figure out the feathering issues we had. The first ones were harder to pluck because they were smaller/younger, right? So, since I have buckeye straight run and only want one roo, I'm looking at culling similar to the two buckeyes in the pics right? PC, how old were those buckeyes? Would I be better off letting them get a bit older?

Now, the larger ones at the end were nasty EEs about 3 years old?

Yup, we did it in the order of the line up, because I remeber we did the EE's last because the water wasn't warm enough, but it was much easier to pluck them then younger ones.

What'd you use to kill them?... It looks to me like a knife through the brain? or am I just insane?...we were thinking of the cone, and knife through the brain since it cuts everything off.

Nope, we used a hatchet. If you look closley on the first pic the hatchet is in the top of the pic. You just put 2 nails in a stump, put their head between them and chop, fast and painless. The knife through the brain does works but I think this method is easier and quicker, JMHO.
