PRODUCTION Toulouse Geese Thread!!

Why did I come to this thread to post a question. The first thing I see is baby geese. It is a good thing geese have a defined breeding period or I would be in big trouble.

Anyway, I went out and let my three out to graze while I finished my chores so I could go to the store and get dog food to mix with the dry food my dogs eat. I know, getting dog food to mix with dog food...what since does that make? I am doing my chores and hear Sting (my gander) honking, turn to look and there he is flying over the fence into the Cayuga pen and going after the Cayugas. I am shouting NO!!! He is chasing ducks with his neck fully extended, ducks are quacking and running and flying...it is BEDLAM. I run around to the back of the pens, open the gate and herd the ducks out into the field. The ducks run and fly all over the place. Sting runs out and to his girls to protect them and at least I can now herd the geese back into their pen. Then I have to gather up 16 Cayuga ducks and herd them back into their pen.

Of course, now Sting, Pauline and Lydia want to go out to graze and I am telling them they are in a time out because they can't behave themselves...do you suppose they even remotely understood?

WHY DO GEESE HATE DUCKS??????? The Blue Swedish drake that we had to get rid of because he fought the Khaki drake so ferociously used to run back and forth along the fence line and taunt Sting so maybe that is why. But Sting needs to lay off my Cayugas or he is going to find a screen over the top of his pen. Big threat there.

BYC need a smiley face of me falling over in exhaustion.

 I feel like geese and ducks have an unspoken agreement that they will never get along. Just like owls and crows, no one really knows why..!! That sounds like such trouble! Silly geese.

I started with two ducks last Spring, and I loved them and miss them dearly, but I like geese sooooo much better. They have way more personality, and theyre so much smarter! I love all birds but I don't think I will ever own ducks again.

I have three goslings wait listed from Ideal Poultry, they'll ship March 4, 2015! Buff male, Embden male, and a Pomeranian female. Going to call tonight and change that buff to a female. Hopefully Pear has some fertile eggs this spring becauase my grandma wants her gozzies and I don't want any inbreeding going on between them. Are you all planning on getting more geese come spring?

What no video? lol I know for a fact my geese don't like anything else with feathers whether it quacks or clucks the chickens and ducks try to keep a good distance between them and the geese or the geese have someone in their mouth. Makes me so mad with them. I keep telling them they are very lucky I love them so much, when I am out there with them and one starts after another of the flock I can say HEY real loud and the perpetrator will stop. I'm sure as soon as I go back inside their at it again. One of my EE's is so late to molt I thought for sure the geese had gotten hold of her and ripped out her feathers till I went in to clean the coop and saw them laying on the shavings. They just know they are the biggest and the baddest and want to make sure everyone else knows too.

My geese hate my cats.. If cats walk by them they go into full on attack mode

   I didn't even add my dogs into the equation since they don't get to spend time with them unless I am there, but oh yes they hate the dogs to. It's a good thing they like each other :/

My pit bull is terrified of my geese so they follow her around. But my golden isn't the least bit afraid.
