Prolapsed Vent!!

Do you have any new pictures of her vent? Are you still soaking or keeping the prolapse moist? Can you push it back in? It can take a week or more sometimes for the prolapse to stay in. If she is with the others I am afraid that they will peck at her vent prolapse casuing more damage. She could visit them in a wire dog crate.

I don’t have any new pics. I can get some. It has been much over a week with no improvement. I have over 40 chickens and, really they completely ignore her. I just can’t get it to shrink or stay in. :(

My white Americauna that lays a blue egg (only one) had that happen twice. I bathed her in a warm epsom salt bath dried her off real good had my hubby hold her while I put hemorrhoid cream and started pushing her tissue back in ever so gently, i had to repeat 3 times that week she hasnt relapsed thank goodness. I keep her separated though because she eats eggs, Ive tried to break her but to no avail. Im lucky if i happen to be out just as she passes and i can grab it but I swear the other times she gives me the evil eye makes me think she's saying ok Lady i know i have 30 minutes before you come back got to get this thing out and devoured before you grab it.

I am just afraid that if she is not kept separated, that you might find her disemboweled or vent pecked. If she is not improving at all, it might be best to cull her. You can see how it goes, but it her prolapse is still there, she should be spearated or kept in and treated. Flies may also become a problem, and they can cause flystrike if they lay maggot eggs on her exposed vent.

Mine did not get fixed. :(
Do you have pictures of yours? I’m not sure how to help since she’s so small.
I’m sorry to hear your gal didn’t improve. My little girl is finally getting better...it literally improved over night , but not without bathing her bum 4x/day. Not sure if she is completely out of the woods. Truly sorry you didn’t have a better outcome 😢 just know you did the best you could to help her.

Update!!
i brought her back in last night and washed her feathers and prolapse. It seemed much smaller and I got the scab off. It was cold so I kept her in my bathtub all night since she was wet. She seemed puny and like her appetite was down but she gobbled up some boiled egg yolks. 24 hours later and her vent is still in!! Her appetite is better this evening too. What should I feed her to decrease her egg production in hopes that she doesn’t prolapse again?

Still working on my girl as well. Day 3. Some improvement. She's been two days without food, I feel I have to give her something. Should she go right to pellets or maybe a little plain yogurt?

Oh boy...that’s outside of my skill set. I’m new to the chicken game, but I would guess you want to give her something to keep her strength up and keep her system moving. Others have suggested scrambled egg or mashed hard boiled egg with a bit of sugar water mixed in to entice her to eat. Mine didn’t like eggs but give it a try. I seriously soaked her bum multiple times a day and kept the prepH and antibacterial ointments on her. Good luck and keep up the great work.
