On the same subject…Faverolles are named for the French village “Faverolles”…so the “s” remains regardless to whether you are referring to one fowl or many fowls.
-something I have to really concentrate on. Hopefully it will become habit before the chicks get here, not that they will care if I get their breed name correct

Ok, the ones I'm wondering about are:

Cochins - "COE-chins" (long O, emphasis on first syllable), yes?

Marans - is it "MARE-ins", or is it "mer-ANNS"?

And I recently came across another - Serama. I've always said "ser-AH-mah", but someone recently referred to my "SARE-uh-muh". Any thoughts??

but, if we are raising something and especially if we are BREEDING something we should try to be as knowledgeable as we can about it. i am certainly no genius, but i am learning as i go.

I knew you could provide the answer.

My pet peeve is that here, in the South, all black & white chickens are called "Dominiques" (or Domineckers

) when they are actually anything but Dominiques. I've answered ads three times and they assured me the chickens were true Doms, but when I got there I would find Barred Rocks.

No offense to the Barred Rocks out there, just not what I am looking for.
