Proof that staples are not enough!

Is it me, or is that opening just enough for someone's head and shoulders to fit through?

Yes, and no animal would have rolled the top like that, or bent back each side

Looks like a neighbor "liberated" his chickens. Maybe the perp wanted to make it appear that they got attacked by a critter?

This is just down the road from me. There are lots of people around here with chickens and lots of people around here that are not thrilled the neighbor has chickens. Just because someone has a long commute to work doesn't make 'em country folks and in this area, everyone thinks they should have a say in what the neighbors are doing.
This is why we need to be vigilant, Pierce County is looking at banning backyard chickens.

It looks like it was cut to me too but.... why wouldn't they just pick up the tractor?

ABSOLUTELY FOR SURE that is human damage not raccoon or any other animal. The clean diagonal cuts are a total giveaway.

I would guess an axe, with the now-cut edges being bent outwards for safer insertion of an arm.

If not an axe, then a machete perhaps, or even someone very very vigorous with a square shovel.

It looks like it was cut to me too but.... why wouldn't they just pick up the tractor?

Either at night they couldn't see it was bottomless, or, just malicious damage. I think my money's on the latter.

Looks like to me that the original owner probably had some type of extension added to the side of the ark there.
A nesting box perhaps? If you look at the cuts and how the wire is bent, thats what I see.
Betcha that's what was torn away by the coon.
