True. After all, it's about communication. Saying it "correctly" and not being understood doesn't get you anywhere.and they had no idea what I was asking for. It's just the way it is. Go with the flow. etc.
I dislike how we americanize words too, but if the chicken experts here call it Dee- ookel then I am going to follow suit. Ditto for place names. Or foods...I had a friend from The Netherlands when I was a teen. She teased me about the way we say gouda cheese, as goo-da. She pronounced it kind of like howda with a throaty sound in front. Next trip to deli I asked for it using the proper Dutch pronunciation, and they had no idea what I was asking for. It's just the way it is. Go with the flow. etc.
Oh, I'm in agreement with both of you. If you don't say it where people can understand it then you're not goin to get what you want. Just sayin how I love the true pronunciations....and I'm sure I totally slaughter them, lol. When I'm in another country I get laughed at for sayin things the way I say it...but then again I've slaughtered the English language sometimes.True. After all, it's about communication.
