I'm getting to the point where I have to decide how to finish the windows on our new coop. I am using recycled wood sash windows. I think I want to hinge them at the top and use them like awning windows. It's hot here much of the year, so I will want to have these windows completely (rather than partially) open most of the time. One option is to use a chain and fasten the windows open by attaching the other end of the chain to the roof overhang. I could buy awning window hinges, but I've checked online and they run between $20-30 a pair (and I have three windows). Ouch. The last option I can think of is to fashion some kind of wood prop to go on the side of each window. For those of you that have this kind of window, what do you use to prop your windows open? How's it working?
