Protecting Hens from Japan Fallout!

Btw, OP, have you read about what happened in Europe after Chernobyl? Even in areas much closer than we are to Japan, the fallout caused relatively minor issues. Most had thyroid issues that were treatable. (This was in the France, Italy, UK area.)

I don't like nuce anything, my microwave is even suspect, I too don't like chemicals ect, problem is there's no getting away from it unless you live on Mars.
It's in our food our critters food our air and water. The media is a joke run by the governing bodies, in 1 form or another, so you will never get the whole truth from them, and even there half truths are actually only about half correct. Between the GMO foods, Chemical additives, fluoride, rat poison, pharmaceuticals, in our water food supply you really shouldn't worry about the radiation IMHO that's the least of our problems just now, but I will keep your uses available to my critters any little extra sure couldn't hurt.

Hi friends I just linked in here from the Kansas thread. I have been watching the Japan crisis for a few days now like most of you. Here is a fact; each and every one of you has some Chernobyl radiation in you. At this level it’s harmless. We have 3 mile island, Chernobyl and now we have 4 Japan reactors that are right at the stage of "core on the floor”. Its just that much more radiation we put in the air. I know that even if all four ignite the Hydrogen building up in the core now and explode shooting out huge plumes very little will make it to America. The solution to pollution is dilution. It’s Japan that will suffer the most. They utilize fisheries big time. I am thinking that Chernobyl still has a large exclusion zone, so what will these provide? Here is a question I loose sleep over; does it really matter if we dump a bunch of highly active radioactive waste in the ocean?

Sue,

Just keeping them and yourself out of the rain would be a help. My kids wont be playing in the rain for the weeks and perhaps months to come. Realistically if you were super paranoid about it you would buy all the feed you could with the idea that future feed created by this year's crops might be worth skipping over. I am not taking it that far, and I certainly hope things turn out alright for those poor buggers in Japan. I think worrying is way more damaging than anything in the world so if it helps you to worry less by thinking about these things and acting in a way that doesn't do harm and could help a bit then do it! I am glad someone posted info about using iodine. You want to go easy on that stuff Read the label!. You asked about apples and a whole thread of people start telling you all about their experience and knowledge regarding oranges. What is transpiring right now is new territory, a little bit of critical thinking is always a good thing. Buy an umbrella and keep smiling. ; )
