Puffy eyed peafowl.

Great to know! That one picture is awful! I will let her rest for the night and go back in tomorrow. Should I worry about how much she's bleeding? And I'm confused because I don't feel or see anything in her puff now. But what your saying is its still there even tho I can't tell.

I'm sorry, I should have warned you about the blood, lol, it worried me, too. I think if you make the incision bigger, you'll find more. You should also check the cleft in the roof of her mouth and make sure there's no pus in it.

This is normal

This has pus

Another thought... On the couple that I have did, I tried applying a little pressure to to the roof of their mouth and and more pus appeared at the incision *and* the corner of the eye.

Okay. So should I cut right above the last cut and I should make it longer? Almost the length if her face? Yes she bled a lot. I worried I cut to deep or something.

Yes make the cut almost the same length as the lump. Like Casport said push gently on the inside of the mouth to help loosen the mass. After the cut you can hold a towel or clean paper towels to her face til the bleeding slows down. Once the cut is done and the mass removed you should be able to see inside her mouth/nasal area. If clean you sre done. Congrats you removed a cyst!!!!!

Okay so what we did was take a brand new box cutter and make a slit on the underside of the mass as far bellow they eye as possible. Its important that you angle the blade downward the whole time too so that you dont accidentally cut part of they eye under the skin that you cant see. When you to the you should get a helper to hold the bird down, what my dad did was kneel over my hen and press on her wings with his thighs so she couldn't flap and hold her/neck while I cut. Some recommend wearing gloves and a mask while you do it so the bird will not recognize you, mine was definitely more scared of us after and we didn't do that. So after you made the slit push the lump out and make sure you get all of it you dont want to have to do it again haha. I think we rinsed with water but we didn't medicate I'm not familiar with that.

I'm not sure if you have already operated on your girl, but there are very detailed instructions and pictures on Yoda's thread:

Here are some of the pictures from the thread (these are Yoda's pictures, I hope you don't mind Yoda):
After cutting open - still needed to cut through a layer of tissue to remove cyst:

The incision after removal of the cyst:

What the cyst looked like after removal:

This might help you get an idea about the size of the incision you may need to make, and what you might find in there.
It sounds like you might not have anything as large as the cyst pictured.

Let us know how it goes.

You need to finish what you started. The pieces you removed are a solid. You need to make the cut larger and remove the entire mass. Injecting baytril into the mass will not work. It is past the infection stage and hardening. If you do not remove the mass it will start on the other side of the birds face. You will make an incision under the entire lump. and gently squeeze it out. If you do it correctly you will get it out in one piece including the part inside the nasal cavity. I rinsed out the cut with saline solution and gave the bird the shot of baytril. Give the bird a 2cc/ml injection of baytril.
Is this information about dosing stickied? If not, can it be made so?
