Puffy eyed peafowl.

I have no experience with this, but based on the responses you have received:

It sounds like the general suggestion is that you should try to drain out the pus before you cut. Since it's soft it is probably just pus in there. It seems you tried this already but perhaps you didn't quite get the right spot before, or you didn't go quite deep enough, or you made too small a hole. It is the least invasive approach, so it's worth another try!

Also, it seems that the longer you leave it, the more likely that it will turn from soft/pus only into a hard cyst and need cutting. So it sounds like you shouldn't wait to get antibiotics to do something.

As I say, I haven't done this, just basing my comment on the responses of those who have!

Ok. Ill try again later this afternoon. Wish me luck! Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks again to everyone for all the help, support,& advise.

I would get an 18 gauge or large needle and try to get something out. You may have to poke around a bit or re-direct the needle and the hole the needle makes isn't going to be large enough to squeeze the pus through. Anything smaller than an 18 is too small and not likely to yield results.

Okay. I made a small cut underneath the puffiness with an exacto blade. I pushed some pus out but had to make a longer insicion. After I made the second cut she bled and bled! But I was able to push a lot out. It still looks very puffy but after I couldn't get any more I cleaned her up and stopped. I'm sure there is more in there but ill have to let her heal a day and see if the swelling goes down. I may have to make a higher cut but I hope not.

400

This is what I got out

Unless you treat with antibiotic like Tylan 200, 0.5cc injection into inflamed bump , the problem will persist. Just one shot will cure it in 4-6 days once for all..

Injecting into the site of the puffiness (infection) is going to be more efficient because the antibiotic goes directly to the infection and then is dispersed though the peas system
as opposed to injecting the bird in a general area which means that the antibiotic must disperse into his entire system before attacking the infection. I'm not sure I said it right, I hope you understand what I mean.
