Pullet not walking right

My girl doesn't seem to be so knock-kneed. If you look at her she wouldn't strike you as standing abnormally unless you were really looking closely at her. The thing that tips you off that something is wrong is her short gait, her sitting more than than the others and her being "behind" in deciding to do what the others are. I don't know if you're seeing that as well. I read about the slipped tendon thing too -- the pountry pedia podiatry site has a lot of info on it as well as other conditions she could have. I'll keep updating if I learn anything new. Good luck with your girl!

Thanks for the sites and the information! If she has this it certainly isn't as severe as what is pictured (thankfully). As you mentioned though, it can get worse as they get older. She isn't a broiler but is a Silver-Laced Wyandotte. Is this something that the breed is prone to? I read something about the addition of B vitamins being helpful with leg issues. I am administering an electrolyte/vitamin supplement in the water as of yesterday. This morning she seemed pretty perky, but maybe it's wishful thinking. Her gait doesn't seem to be any different.

I've seen the same pop up over the years in males or females. Imo, it is vitamin related. If you catch it early you can fix it with addition of a good vitamin/min supplement to water. Make sure it has A, E, D, and the B's. It could take several weeks of vitamin therapy to see a difference. Good luck.

Can anyone recommend a vitamin?
It's definitely not a slipped tendon. I checked her again and the tendon feels fine. I will try vitamins.

Poultry Cell has vitamins and minerals, and contains riboflavin which Poultry Nutri-drench does not. Dosage is 1 ml per 3 pounds given orally. For vitamins and minerals for the food, try Poultry Booster. Durvet makes several to add to the water. Riboflavin is important so check labels.

Hi There,
I wanted to let you know that my silver-laced wyandotte that I wrote about in the initial post is doing much much better! In fact, if you looked at her now, you'd be hard-pressed to notice anything with her gait. I started adding a vitamin and electrolyte supplement to the water and I don't know whether that's done it, or if she has simply healed on her own from whatever it was. The supplement is the only thing that has changed as far as her care goes. Hopefully your girl has improved as well since you last wrote!
