Pullet or cockerel?

And what is wrong with being a rookie? We all had to start somewhere. I have had chicken for five years and I had one stump me this year. I have one for sure sign to sex chickens. If it lay eggs it is a hen and if it crows its a rooster.

Comments like this are really not necessary. Just because you think the difference is obvious, doesn't mean everyone else does.

My first cockerel got through 10 months before I was kindly told he was a male by someone who didn't even keep chickens.

It was obvious by then, of course, but I'd had chickens for at least a year and I still couldn't recognize a cockerel when I saw one. He had spurs, saddle feathers, a huge comb, you name it.



And Rhode Islands is definitely a breed that can cause some confusion.
