Hello I found a new place to get chickens... Great thing is they are in the next county over, here in wisconsin! I guess they do not hatch any chicks or have any chicks on site. But they told me alot of other company's are the same way? Has anyone ordered from here? Does anyone know where they get there chicks? Thanks alot, Wisco

Any pics would be great if anyone has gottten birds from there! I am also wondering about sandhill in Iowa?
Searched and found some info, but still chime in! Thanks

I found out alot, seems as they are really good, and great customer service. BUT they are just a middle man for other hatcheries. So I think they get alot of their birds from places that you and I could order from. Buuut hey are local and have a great selection of birds. I love to support local business, so I will probably order from them in the spring. Its nice to know you can drive and jerk people around if you need to lol JK. And yes it was purelypoultry.com. I'm just hoping it grows and they start breeding their own birds, be a great place to work [IMG] Wisco

If you are looking for a local place, Sunny Side hatchery is in Beaver Dam. They are actually a hatchery and not a middle man. they don't carry purebreds but they do carry turkeys, production layers, and broilers.

Abendroth's hatchery is also in Wisconsin. They also (as far as I know) don't carry purebreds but do carry some production strains of some breeds

Here is a website with a list of hatcheries. at the bottom are the Wisconsin ones. Abendroth's is listed in there

I ordered ducklings from Purely Poultry, they came from a farm in the midwest (Nebraska?), and they all arrived in great shape, nice big crests, I was very happy with them. Nice people too. [IMG]

I've ordered from Sandhill. You better order now if you want them before September. I don't think they have a whole ton of breeding stock. I was nieve to order my chicks at the end of June and think they would come mid-July. I got part of my order Sept. 9th, part 2 weeks later and 4 of my BLRW didn't come at all. They book up fast on certain breeds. My birds aren't old enough to tell the quality. I didn't have any crooked toes, beaks, or anything like that. Out of the 39 I got, only 1 died a few days after I recieved them.

Hi, Glad to see you on here! We are planning on having Chick Days in the spring so you can pick up chicks. We will have it at a few local feed mills and possibly a few poultry swaps as well. We get our chicks from several suppliers all over the country. We try to source the chicks as locally as possible but unfortunately there are not a lot of varieties here in Wisconsin.

I am glad you enjoyed our customer service.

Yes we are "just a middle man" but I really am very passionate about creating a poultry farm here in the Fox Valley, Wisconsin area as soon as I can afford to. Would you mind reading an article I wrote about the vision I have for poultry. It is titled What will Danke Farms Raise?.

I am also praying that it grows and we start breeding our own birds. My goal is to be an employer, so I would love to have poultry lovers working for us.

I have spent many years debating whether I wanted to relocate and work for a different hatchery, stay in my local and have a very small poultry flock, or ... I decided that I would like to make a big impact on preserving poultry breeds and making poultry easy to find and fun to shop for. I also want to grow my sales volume and learn alot about being in the poultry industry before starting my own place.

We do have some types of birds that are not available at the other big hatcheries because we also work with individual breeders as well.

This is a wonderful company. My birds arrived healthy and happy though only 1 day old. It was a rainy/stormy day and I picked them up at the post office shielding the box with my body until we got into the car. I knew that they did not need anything for a day or two, but was ready with a little water feeder and even feed. They even threw in a couple of extra. They grow astoundingly fast and need to be accommodated along the way. Be prepared, after they have grown and are free-range that you will lose a few to Natural causes trucks, owls, eagles, etc. I ordered keets and have only two originals from that time 3 yrs. ago. I have two guinea hens setting on a joint project of 30 eggs. One keet has hatched and I am anticipating more......I hope![IMG]

I agree. I had one DOA, but one DOA out of 15 chicks is pretty good. All other chicks were happy, perky and healthy. Great looking chicks...far healthier looking than the shipment I just had shipped from another hatchery. Larger chicks too...this last shipment of chicks is tiny compared to the chicks I got from Purely Poultry. Great people to work with as well.
