Putting eggs in the bator on July 25, does anyone wanna hatch along???

Oh, litljenary, I'm so sorry! You have more in the incubator though, don't you? And how old are your girls -- are they old enough to start learning "the facts of life"? If not, I kinda like your solution :)

Sorry to hear about the little one.

Iwould do that too if they are small. If they are like 7 they may know the diff. However probably wont care a lot as long as they have a baby chick.Kids are pretty resiliant.I had that happen too on another hatch Guy pipped sat there all day no more zip and that night turned away from the holeThought he was sleeping and thought morning i will help him. as some ppl say 24 hours later... ..BUt he was gone.Hard to know what to do b/c i have had them pip and then many hours later decided to zip. Most ppl say like 13- 14 hours or if they look like they are getting weak then help
.I did last hatch on one guy He got weak and wasnt chirping or moving or zipping..Took off shell narrow area around left the membrane wet a rag and put it around him leave his beak out.. but slept all night and then broke the membrane inthe morning.I have to say he is a little weakling so far and i am not sure he will make it.might have something wrong the way he walks.
Although he is getting better daily. But wants me to keep feeding him by holding him and giving him wet crumbles with sugar in them.hes 4 days old and tiny like a day or 2 old.l .Does look WAY better though.

I got a pair of tweezers and pulled back the tiniest part of membrane. He's gone for sure.
******, now what do I tell the girls? I'm considering getting a chick from the feed store and pretending nothing happened.
Sorry,

I getting a new baby from the feed store would make it easier on your children then why not.

Wheaton Maran came in second. We have a baby and it has a loud mouth.

I have a couple who have pipped in the wrong and I am struggling with the decision to help or not. I know I am not suppose to open the lid but, ugggh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whee on the Wheaten Maran! And yeah, the pipping thing -- I've been looking for info about helping eggs hatch, when to, when not to -- I didn't even know they could pip the wrong end! So I'm suddenly feeling horribly unprepared...

Completely unrelated, but we need some pictures! Part of my garden, back in late June. Boy was it dry!

The upside-down 'L' of solid green in the back and to the right are all tomatoes -- I planted things WAAAAY too close together. Carrots and onions in the middle section. The row on the left is pinto beans, an experiment. Behind are the watermelon and cantaloupe --yummmm, cantaloupe! Something I never would've even tried to grow in Maine.

Now we need chick pics instead! When you guys can get to 'em... :)

Okay, I couldn't contain myself. I made a small big enough for its beak to fit out. We are breathing now. I candled it before I did it to make sure what was going on and sure enough it had pipped where there is no air. I don't know whats up this hatch, they keep hatching the wrong end. All three Wheaton Marans pipped the wrong end. Two of them made a big enough breathing hole on there own so I left well enough alone. Then the one actually hatched on its own and this last one that pipped the wrong end was a White Ameraucana. I had to help that one.
