So I've had an Easter Egger rooster for the past...8 years. He grew up inside my home like a dog. He doesn't recognize that he's a rooster and my family is his family. Unfortunately, recently due to some illness my family was told to get rid of the chicken.
Naturally he's our baby and it's incredibly hard, so I'm uncertain what to do. I'm in Canada. My rooster is kind of spoiled, he likes to eat grapes and budgie seeds and be cuddled. I'm at a loss at what to do. I can't imagine having to put him down - is giving roosters away an option?

I am sorry that you have to deal with this. It is a possibility to give him away, although you have to worry about whether the new home will take him as a pet or food...

You could give him away to a friend, family or a person you don't know that you can keep in touch with. Could that be a workable opportunity for you? Hope he finds a good home!

I agree with this comment

Potential issues with placement being his advanced age coupled with a lack of chicken social skills that would be needed for him to integrate into a non-house chicken home. These could present significant barriers that may make placement a cruelty to him rather than a gift unless tiki are able to find just the right home
