putting them in the LG tomorrow want to join me?

what a night seems I have had strait drama for a full week now. I need a break
Listening to tv off the local stations, my friend Su Goodman called me and said get out of there twister is headed your way, a mile wide just flattened Joplin, I looked outside but it didnt concern me at all. a little overcast. i turned on the tv and the doppler showed what Su was talking about. I hollored for Norm to bring the girls in the house and get my seramas from their habitat into a cage I put mooskla and her babies in the rabbit hutch and double strapped the hutch down to my kitchen counter. I grabbed my bator. going to the car the sky was no longer mild, it had turned black black and a mix of rain and golfball sized hail. (hail the size of oranges was falling just 40 miles from me. ) The wind just came out of no where and blew the plastic off my bator and the element got some water in it. We made our way ever so slowly because lots of large broken branches covered the road. and visibility was real bad.

Drove up to my daughters and we took so long my son in law had left to look for us. My 18 yr old grandson met me and helped me carry my animals in my bator stayed constant on no cycling at all. the red light was just blinking. for an hour I stood over the bator and unplugged it when it got to 100 degrees (my back freakin hurts right now) when plugged in the red light sorta blinked. My grandson got a blow dryer and blew dried the to to dry the water. after a while the blinking stopped, and the bator began cycling properly Yay!!! I am back home now. I tried to get a hold of Ruth who I met yesterday because she was also in the pathway of this super twister, but i have not heard from her yet.
TTY girls later Donna please pray for the poor people in joplin

Good morning girls. I will be praying for the people in MO today. I saw it on the news last night and the devastation of such a large town is incredible and sooooo sad. Donna I am so glad you are safe and okay as well as the rest of your family. What a blessing. So glad too that your animals are all safe as well as your home. I can't imagine living through that once let alone on a regular basis. The most we have here in WA is floods and the occassional earthquake, but I have never been through one that caused too much damage. Get some rest today and try and calm your nerves. You are in my prayers.

cripes, the sky right now is noisy, we are getting it again, though it is projected not to be near as bad.
I called the fire dept to see if there was a celler at the station that is just 1/10 of a mile from me where i could take me and my animals if it got bad today. his response was even if there was a cellar there i couldnt bring ANY of my animals with me. I was shocked!! Before next year I want to blast a huge underground shelter with cages for my chickens to be safe.

MAYA gave me an egg so i have 2 eggs from my flock of seramas now!!! Lisa I went on and put it in the incubator. i wrote todays date on it and "My 2nd egg" and of course x and o for hand turning. I wish i could feel the excitment that i felt 2 days ago when i got my very first egg, but it is not the same feeling. i am just happy.

I have Maya and mollie on laying grain. will this hurt my maurice as he is eating the same thing?

I was very very relieved to hear from Ruth the BYC member that i met and she is ok but said it was bad there as well.

huggggs Donna

Donna,

I hope you and all your animals are safe! I guess it doesn't surprise me that you aren't allowed to bring animals to the fire station, but they could have been a little nicer about telling you that! I am anxious to hear how your candeling goes. I am going to wait until Thursday or Friday night as I am so inexperienced in what I am supposed to see. I havent' ever thrown out a good one, but I don't want to take the chance. I usually leave them there longer than I should, but I would rather be safe than throw out a good egg.

Gosh Autumn i am not candling until day after tomorrow. My first clutch i thought an egg was no good. opened the thing up and a little heart was beating

I felt so so bad. I completely over candled my first clutch. What do you have for a candler. I use an upside down coffee can haha. This is a great photo of a day 4 embryo. if your eggs are pourous you may not be able to see this clearly though you will see the vein spidering directed towards the red spot.

My animals are more like my kids, I only took 2 dogs and 4 chickens last night when we evacuated...... I closed the dog run and let the rest of my dog stay in the livingroom. walking our that door was harder than anyone could ever know. Should this ever happen again before i blast my underground shelter, i wont let them just roam, i have enough crates to where i could put 2 to a crate and if the house blew down they would stand a much better chance than roaming the house. i know it sounds cruel to crate a dog then leave, but tornadoes dont last very long and thats all i can think of to improve their chances of surviving. heres the day 4 picture for you. hugs Donna

Nice candling pic, Donna! Is that from the coffee can and sock?
I hope that dark spot on the Rock egg you saw on pre-set candling was just a blood spot --- I can't think of anything else still.
My boys all eat the same as the girls, free-feed laying pellets and scratch in the evenings.
You don't want to keep adding eggs daily after the original 'set date'. Hold onto them for a week and set that weeks worth (I do understand your excitement). If you have a 2nd incubator to use as a hatcher, you can safely set eggs every week and move the Day 18 eggs every week to the incubator designated as 'hatcher'. The 'incubator' never gets dirty and you can clean the hatcher weekly after each hatch is done.

Tornados scare the stuffing out of me. Spontaneous, unpredictable, and violent.

oh no lisa i already put the second egg in the bator, should i take it out??
thats not my own picture its from a college my camera takes terrible pictures. it is though what i saw on my last clutch for a day 4 egg. so I thought it was a good example for autumn. Hugs Donna
