This was my original group - 2 roos and 3 hens. The one roo comb was Huge. One hen sat in the doorway one night and froze to death. 😞

This was what I had to choose from. There were a bunch of cockerels that had way too much black that I rehomed.

The roo in the second picture looks good to me.

That's the guy I kept. :)

In re the Willow Legs, I'm wondering if we breed the most correct coloring to each other, if they'll pop back in. I know that several people have tried to fix the breed issues by outcrossing to OEG, and I'm wondering if that's where the overage of black is coming from. OEG's can also be aggressive, being game birds. I had one Privett cockerel that pecked a hole in the head of one of the pullets. Then I had rehomed a few of the ones I wasn't keeping and, I now figure it was the same one, a rehomed cockerel chewed a wing off of one of their Bantam hens. When they returned him, I euthanized him.

Rusty Hart, who is the only private breeder I know of that is working with them, pops onto the Pyncheon group on FB once in a while. At one point I asked if there are any outcrossings he's done that he finds helpful to improve issues, such as the legs, and he said no.

I have toyed with the idea of crossing a Pyncheon hen with a Nankin roo. Nankins have slate legs, Maybe white/pink and slate would make willow? Body shape is similar and so is base coloring. Might also correct the tendency to white out over time. I believe it would take 4 generations of crossing the offspring back to Pyncheons to get back to 100% pyncheon.

I just learned of this breed tonight and I’m surprised at how similar they are to my Olandsks in color and body shape! These Pyncheons are neat! They’re all very pretty!

This is my group of ODs…I feel like they might be slightly smaller versions of Pyncheons without the head floof!

Very similar. It makes me wonder if they are related.
