Devastatingly, I lost my hen and one of her pullet-chicks yesterday in the heat.

They’re survived by her husband and the chick’s 5 siblings, but Damn!!!

She had just started laying again this week after raising this brood. I put those eggs in the incubator today.

I'm so sorry for your losses Where are you located? It really has been so hot. I didn't think my bantams were struggling like my large fowl so this is a good reminder for me to closely watch everyone

I’m in NJ. We’ve had 4-5 days of 99+ temps.

The worst part is that I’ve been keeping their water fonts freshened and earlier in the week I changed out to a slightly larger version of what they’d been using to ensure enough water with the chicks being older and bigger now. In retrospect, I don’t think they were using it!!!!!
When I found the hen passed, with her chicks sitting around her , I added a second one with electrolyte water and the Roo and chicks surrounded it and drank for 15-20 minutes!!

To add to it, I also found my smallest Serama hen passed yesterday morning. She was broody and sitting on 3 eggs in the nest box. Found her, still on the eggs. The Seramas are in the barn, with fans going. I guess, again, she just wasn’t drinking enough. I put the eggs in the incubator, hopefully the chiclets revive. I’ll candle them this morning.

That is so sad. I'm not a fan of summer weather anyway and this makes me hate it more. Has the humidity been high too? The temps here have fluctuated in the 90's for a while now but like today will be in the lower 90's. The humidity here makes it even more uncomfortable. I can't imagine having a down coat on in this. I'm so sorry for your losses. My heart breaks for you
