Pyxis' Emu Chat Thread

Happy Independence Day everyone!

Apparently emu food is delicious. I was wondering why their feed bucket was emptying so quickly. I found out today when I filled it back up.

I hung it up on the wall so now only the emus can reach it.

Oh, and here's the little fearless cockerel that doesn't run from emus. He's a good boy, very friendly, a bit of a lap chicken. He's the only ko I have in this color so I'm pretty much keeping him around as a pet.

Your little Ko guy is handsome!

Thanks! I'm quite partial to them, but they're not everyone's cup of tea :)

Here's a wheaten pair. The pullet got best pullet in a show I attended in May. She may be a real contender in the Fall shows, now that she's filling out more.

They're very tame and human friendly. They even let me dress them up.

I gotta say I really didn't get the appeal until I saw them at a show. Seeing them in person totally changed my mind. They are really cool little chickens and I'm just wishing I had somewhere to keep a pair or two.

I’m digging them too! How big do they get?

Not big :) Males 2 3/4 pounds, females 2 1/4 pounds.

Super feisty little things though. Introducing them to other chickens is hard unless the other chickens back down right away. That silly little cockerel took on two light brahma cockerels and one AC cockerel at the same time, all three times his size, and would not back down.

Sounds like a couple of my serama boys. :lau
