Quack-shack

Mice will eat their feed . No way can we elimanate mice except with their preds which are snakes. I try not to mess with the blk snakes here because they are so good on keeping rodents in check that is unless one may get after ducklings or chicks then he gets a new home away from home.

Door is finished and finally hung. All walls sealed in hardware cloth. Now pond plumbing and acquiring rock.

That is a cute coop!!! That is a coop right?
Thanks. I had to make it match my house so I wouldn’t get into trouble with our deed restrictions....Its a coop and run. There really isn't a separate sleeping compartment or coop really. It’s just one big secure run I suppose. The east side and north side doesn't have a solid wall; it is just hardware cloth for ventilation. The south side(the side you see in the picture with the door) and the west side is a solid wall lined with hardware cloth.

You might, in the winter, want to put tarps up on the open walled side to prevent drafts and wind. Do you plan on free ranging? I think, cuz I have not read the whole thread, I have missed some stuff.

Well I fought so hard to finish and have the birds in there tonight. Unfortunate I’m losing light and I don’t have a magnet to run through the grass. I’m going to store to get now before I collapse.

In a last minute decision I decided to do half pebbles and half deep litter. But I’m a little upset. The rock that they dumped into my truck bed is not the rock I selected. It’s slightly bigger. It looked fairly smooth when I was shoveling it. But it’s not perfect.

Any how. Update pics.

I might have to put some kind of temporary wind block in winter on the north side. Every once in a while in winter we might get to as low as 15*F. It is rare though. Usually our max low is in the 20’s with javing days into the 50’s. Our winters are very mild. I do want to free range them in the future for an hour or more a day whilst I’m working in the garden. That’s the plan anyhow. But we have owls and hawks here. So they can only free range when supervised.
